i know you guys will get pissed, but i tried posting this in the how-to's, but wouldnt work, so im sure one of the administrators will move it
as for my questions, i got the aem sri, and about to intall it, now,i have a few questions
do i HAVE to reset the ecu? even if i dont throw a check engine light? i really dont wanna reset my stereo settings.

and one more, how much space has to be from the tube, to the master cylinder? i read quite a few people saying in rubs against it causing damage, how much does the engine torque ? should i leave a good 1 inch? or what?
thanks in advance
i searched, beleive me, but no one was specific about this.
pics would be great

with the aem sri you wont come close enough to rub the brake master cylinder...so its not an issue, the complaints come from the ebay intakes..

yeah, i used to have the ractive intake, which i think is the same as cheapness as the ebay ones, but with a better filter?

what about resetting the ecu? is it necessary? the manual says disconnect the negative terminal on the battery b4 installing, but they dont specify its to reset the computer, probably just for safety reasons
why do i have to let the computer reset anyways? doesnt it recalculate the air flow constantly? thats the whole point of the MAS and IAT ? right? i have no idea, just guessing here

I was always told to reset the computer everytime you do an engine mod. Way I understood it the computer recalibrates itself to the mods after you reset it. The computer goes back to factory and then modifies itself for what you have done to the car. Something about the car wont really recalibrate itself correctly if you dont reset the puter. Not sure on that though but I've always done it on my hondas.

yeah i guess i'll reset it
its just bothering me that i cant understand this
what is it reseting? the ratios of fuel/air? i figure these change constantly

IT resets the computer to exactly the way it was when it rolled of the asembly line.

You have to subscribe to that forum (as with the others) before you can post in it. There should be a link that you click in the forum that will subscribe you to it. Try that.

I installed the same SRI and my cel comes on constantly. I've tried resetting the ecu many times, but after a day or two of driving the darn cel comes back on. Should I take it to the dealer?

The dealership will probably tell you that its your Mass Airflow Sensor. You know, the little thing that you had to plug into you SRI. I believe it sits down near the filter. Did you hit it or damage it in any way when you installed the SRI?

OR, they will probably tell you that its you oxygen censor. The censor that is commonly found near you catalytic converter.

make sure your MAF is plugged in the right way. and make sure you have no vaccuum leaks along the intake somewhere. and if you had to move that solenoid valve thing (you know, that impossible piece of crap that was stuck on the stock intake towards the throttle body that looks like two points) that you didn't break it on accident. otherwise, i don't know... maybe your car is going to die and burst into a big ball of flames?

YES YES YES I HAVE THE SAME QUESTION!!! when me and my friend installed my ractive intake, we didnt reset the ecu (or battery) will that do any damage?

and 2.) ever since i had my intake installed the acceleration went down dramatically, why is this? its like my car became heavier (uhm)

jus reset the ecu so it can set it self to work properly, i reseted my ecu while i was instaling it (i got the injen)

okay? ...how?

Togan,
Just disconnect your battery for about 5-10 minutes, then reconnect it. This will reset your ECU. Then when you first drive it, STAND ON IT for awhile. Or don't. The ECU will recalibrate itself according to the way you drive it for the first few miles. So depending on how hard you drive it at first will effect how it sets itself.

It can't be my MAF because I already broke it and replaced it with a brand new one.

If I take it to the dealer, will they charge me for looking at it?

I've checked all of my connections on the intake and nothing is loose and I don't think that the solenoid is broken.

hmmmmm....what to do?
