installed redline mt 90

just reuse the old one. you'll be fine. I only got a new one because there is a mazda dealer like two miles from my work.

Redline Brochure sez:

I have a Redline lube brochure which says:

Redline MT-90: A 75W90 GL-4 gear oil designed for use in manual transaxles. Provideds excellent protection of gears and synchronizers and its balanced slipperiness provides a perfect coefficient of friction, allowing easier shifting.

Redline Shockproof Gear Oil: recommended for heavily loaded racing differentials and transmissions which see shock loading. ShockProof contains a unique solid dispersion which cushions gear teeth to help prevent tooth breakage and allows the use of lower viscosities. Available as Superlight, Lightweight, and Heavy grades.

Redline 75W90 Gear Oil: recommended for most street driven and racing differentials. Excellent performance in conventional and limited slip units. Also for limited slip manual transaxles which require a 90 WT oil.

So take your pick. I like the MT90 because of the synchronizer engagement. But the others will work too.

i spoke with a redline rep and he recomended mt-90 thats why i got it.

What can I say....IT'S LIKE BUTTER!!! :D

I've reused the old one like 3 times.

i see you found a 23mm.lol This stuff is truely amazing, my car never felt so good.:D

Well, I had a 24mm socket and decided to be gentle and see if it'd work. No problem! The plug is not torqued down hard so I just used it. Besides, I had the car on jacks and cooled off. Didn't want to have to go out again for the correct socket.

So, to install this do you need to get the car up on ramps, or can it be done from the top?

ramps or jack stands will do. My car i cant use ramps b/c its too low. you need to get under the car to drain the fluid.

And the tools required are a 23mm socket?

yep and a gear pump, 23mm sockets seem like quite a rare item. hard to find, my set only goes up to 20mm.

I removed the plug....and nothing came out. I have ramps under the front. I assume the car needs to be level, right?

Remove the drain plug and the filler plug.

Hot dang just put some in mine too. I do my own servicing and figured it wouldn't hurt to replace it at 23K. The shifting didn'[t improve as much as I thought it would. Compared to a toyota transaxle it is still really notchy. I did notice a slight performance improvement though. When they say it increases efficiency by a proven 2-5% I believe them. The shifting is a little smother though but not as smooth as I'd like it to be.

The shifts get smoother and more effortless over time

I put MT-90 in my tranny at around 500 miles and currently have 13500 miles and the shifts are so precise and effortless. plus you can't beat the protection when you get excited and beat the old foot when racing.

Good point. Same thing here...some marginal improvement. But I would think it would get better over time.

Over course I did a 1 part MT-90 to 2 parts MTL for my change (per a recommendation seen elsewhere)...We will just have to see.
