Injen CAI + AEM dryflow?

:
11 MS3 Sport
Has anyone considered or actually tried this? I really do like the idea of the Dryflow filter on the AEM/MSCAI. But, I like the idea of the one piece construction of the Injen intake, and the fact I can get it in black. So I suppose, I could always just order an AEM Dryflow filter replacement for the Injen CAI right?

Anyone actually done this? Also, what's the dimensions of the Injen CAI filter? So I can search on AEM's website for costs. Injen's website is utter fail.

I had an Injen on my Si and it caused it to run a little lean at higher rpms. Perhaps the two piece construction of the AEM allows you to make it into a short "hot" intake if you want?

I've only heard from ONE person on the forums that Injen makes the MS3 run lean. Was that you? I don't understand why? I thought it has the proper MAF housing?

I've also read that it can alter the "tuning" of the intake by switching filter types. I don't see how that would be an issue at all..

It wasn't me running lean with an Injen on my MS3. I know that the Injen CAI for the Civics didn't have the vanes that the AEM systems now offer. Our Civic's encountered the same issues with the AEM CAI that the MS3 did. AEM did eventually fix the issue by installing vanes in the intake.

I really don't see the point in a CAI on a intercooled car though.

I was looking at some datalogs from this weekend on my car and this car runs rich as hell, saw AF at 9.6 at one point under hard acceleration, if the cai leaned the car out a bit I dont think it would hurt, plus the injen hasnt thrown any CEL's that I've heard of.

Vanes, meaning air straigthener?

yes it's possible because it is exactly what i have. you'll need AEM filter part # 21-203D, available at advance auto parts for about $45.

Yes, vanes as in the air straighteners. Once AEM reproduced their design incorporating the vanes, a lot of us switched to them from Injen.

I liked the AEM dry flow filter I used to have. Has anyone here tried out the duel funnel Apex'i air filter yet? When we replaced our used aftermarket filters, we tended to go with the Apex'i, granted, it's pricey for a filter.

Injen will be fine even with their filter, just make sure to get the hydroshield. The Injen runs proper MAF size so no CEL's. AEM runs a generic 3 inch pipe HOWEVER they now include an air-straightener to avoid CEL's. Both are great, however BLACK looks sick...speaking from personal exp on the ms3.

i bought my AEM CAI in 02 sometime, does that mean i have one w/out the vanes and maybe need a new one?

If you notice, this is in the MS3 section. The MS3 didn't come out till early 06-07. Does your factory air box have air straightners? If not, you don't have them on your intake, nor will you need them.

kthxbai.

I've been running the Injen CAI for a while and I never got any CELs
