since their race cars are made to shatter into a bajillion pieces, i wanna say that he's okay, or at least in better shape than the spectators.

Looks painful but the cockpits are very strong so it's hard to say. The cars aren't really made to fly apart. It's just due to the high speeds during a crash, the light shell material and the minimalist design of the entire car to keep the weight down. They weight just over 1300 pounds including the driver, etc.

Those aren't Indy or F1 cars, possible Formula 3 or even something else. But then again, who cares, i would not want to be the one driving it as it/he hit the wall.
