This past Sunday I got a job working at a restaurant at the Keystone Resort up in the rockies. Its about 70 miles west of Denver just south of I-70. Im going to be there from Novemeber to April and im hoping its going to be a great experience. I don't think im going to drive my car because its guite a drive, and im not really going to need it anyways. Not to mention ill save some money by not paying insurance for 6 months. They are going to be paying me around $10/hr and the housing is about $325 a month. Its not anything great but ill be able to save up a little and have something nice to put on my resume when I get back home for the summer. I was just wondering if anyone on here has been to this resort before or if anyone has any comments about he whole thing lol. I've lived my whole life in FL and im sure the winter weather of the Rockies is going to be just about the most extreme change possible. Im looking foreward to this though, it should be fun:)

Sounds cool, I re-thinking this whole thing and im debating going. I wish someone had some input?

You can't really go wrong with a move to Colorado. Summit County in general is a great place to live, however for a single guy it sucks. There's a lot of horse and not a lot of camel.

Everyone is very laid back, weather is great and you get about 2 1/2 months of "real summer." Spring and Fall are cooler of course and the winters can be pretty bad (though that has been up and down for for the past 7 years). Winter time you'll find it to your advantage to have a truck or SUV just to make it easier to get around. Living expenses can be a little on the costly side and you definately get what you're paying for as far as housing goes.

You'll be about 1 1/2 hours from Denver, about 30 minutes from Vail, and 20 minutes from Silver Thorn.

Well im only going to be up there from November to April, and the housing is $325 a month including the deposit makes it $600 for the first month. They said I won't be needing a vehicle so if I go ill be flying into Denver and catching a bus to the resort I guess. Meaning that Ill be stuck at the resort in the middle of a Colorado winter for 6 months. Its really either stay home and pay car insurance or go and pay rent. Hard decesion lol, it almost seems like its going to be more than its worth for the trip, unless the exerience in itself is worth anything?

Do it. Most likely, you won't ever be able to have an opportunity like this again and you will look back and say: "I wish I would have."

Keystone is a great resort. I will actually be skiing there the first weekend of December doing the 36 hours of Keystone.

You won't need a car- the bus system around Dillon, Breckenridge, Keystone and Copper Mtn is excellent. And it's free.

Sounds fun, I think now im more than likley going to go as long as my parents are able to help me out with the first months expenses. And it makes it nice that they have the free bus system as well, thanks for the info.

I'm waiting a reply to an email today about a few questions I had but I think I have made my mind up and I really want to do this. Its weird, everything I watch on TV is all about snow boarding or snow or mountains and stuff, I think its a clue lol.

Ok, so its official now. I have a job and a plane ticket, I start on Nov. 15th and im getting paid a bit more than I first had thought so I feel better about it now. I just hope I can survive the winter up there lol, theres a first time for everthing I guess. I don't know how much harder it is to cook up there but I guess im gonna find out! Wish me luck:)

Well, water boils at a cooler temp and therefore requires more time to cook food- even in the oven. Alot of frozen food will have "high altitude" cooking instructions. Other than that, not a big deal.

Are you still going to Keystone? I'll be there December 1st and 2nd for the 36 hours of Keystone- nonstop skiing for 36 hours straight!

Yes, I'm going to Keystone. Ill probably have a lot of work to do durring that 36 hours of Keystone crap since everthing stays open all the time. We should hang out sometime while your there, I won't have my car though, im leaving her at home:( I'm still confused about the whole temps thing tho, I read that water boils at 204 in Denver instead of the 212 here, so I guess what it means is that even though it boiling its still not as hot as normal so it takes longer to cook? Right? I dunno lol, im sure they will help me out with all that when I get there. I heard they got 6 inches of snow overnight Saturday and it gave me chills just thinking about it and looking at the pics lol. It's a nice 80 out here, im gonna have fun though, ive never been around snow for more than 3 days, and thats just in a weak Ohio winter lol.

The Shining part 2? lol j/k with you man! Cool that you decided to do it. You more than likely would have kicked yourself in the ass later if you didn't. Here's to a safe and fun-filled trip! (drinks)

Honestly, the cooking deal isn't that big of a deal. Unless you're into baking cookies and bread then maybe. Otherwise it's the same- might just take a little longer.

6" is nothing. Just wait to when you wake up to 30" of fresh over night snow! And the town up there hardly blinks at big numbers like that- just life as usual.

As far as the 36 hours goes- that's going to be crazy. I think we're getting to the mountain the morning it starts. 2 of the guys in my group are actually coming from Florida as well. At some point, we are checking into our hotel room while the other part of our group continues to ski (to keep us in the running for the $3600 prize at the end). And then we'll figure out a rotation so someone from our group is on the mountain at all times. And then once the thing is over, we're heading back down to Denver. I'm not sure when/if/how I'll be able to hang out. But we'll see.

On another note, is there anything I should worry about having my car stored at home for 5 months? I told my bro to start it up and drive it around every once in a while. Im going to be really close to needing an oil change before I leave as well so would it be better to have clean oil in while im gone or leave the old oil in there untill I get back? Im guessing new is always better, but if so will it need changed when I get back even though its not going to have 3k miles on it? Might be a good time to sea foam the oil maybe? I was thinking about getting a car cover as well, the car is going to be in the garage where I always keep it anyways but I figured the cover would help to keep the dust and such off the paint.

I've skied keystone before. Good times. As for the car, you should be fine if it gets driven for awhile. I would definitely change the oil once during that time period even if its not being driven.

So it still needs changed after 3 months even if it isn't being driven much, I guess thats what they say anyways lol, I just wasn't sure. My brother works at Big 10 Tire so im sure having him change the oil shouldn't be too hard for him lol. Ill have to leave him the part number for the 626 filter tho im sure.

How did you like Keystone? I know u said good times but explain... lol. I kinda can't wait to go and am nervous about going at the same time.
