Ignition retard could cause stumble???

I was talking with one of my buddies todAay who works at specmo motorsports in detroit MI and he asked me a question about my msp. He asked, " I heard something about your guys' cars having some ignition retard with increased boost." I told him that I had never heard of that but why would a stock car be experiencing this retarded timing unless mazda really got something wrong with the ecu or something. So, basically I wanna know from the people who are complaining about the stumble, if they have increased the boost on their cars, or if they have left the stock boost level alone and are still experiencing this stumble.

Oh, and I just put on an FMIC and the stumble has gotton worse! even with Joe p's FPR kit... So I kinda wanna find out whats going on like eveyone about this stumble issue.

Do you folks think an afc would suffice in ther mean time to deal with the richness factor from the 3K to 5.5 K rpm range?

Also, since I am venting an atmospheric blow off valve now, can I keep from stalling by tuning with a fuel computer? I kinda need to know how I can avoid that stalling issue because it is getting kind of embarrassing having to stall everytime you want to vent your BOV loud.

So....... Can our rich fuel problem/stumble problem be a result of retarded timing... or is this just an unfathomable theory??

Feedback appreciated...

Ignition retard on a boosted car is a good thing. I cannot imagine this causing stumble. I'm pretty sure its how ridicuously rich the cars run.

guess i'm lucky, i don't have any hesitation. i think i'll knock on wood now. but to answer your questions, no, an afc will not work. they just don't work on our cars. but yes, a fuel management system will keep you from stalling...it'll pull fuel when the bov opens so you don't stall.

ignition retard on factory turboed car is quite common and as mentioned "it's a good thing". Retard lessens the chance of predetonation. This should not cause stumbling. However, a BOV can/will cause the stumbling. Also, a very rich fuel map can cause this as well. An Apex'i SAFC has a function called "Dec. Air", which corrects the stumbling/stalling problem for cars with a BOV (search google for more info).

"Ignition retard"-this, "Ignition retard"-that. GEEZ! You guys are so insensitive!

At least have the decency to call it "Ignition Mentally Disabled" :D
