If Your Lsd Broke Read This!

It should be 3 years/80,000KM bumper-to-bumper and 5 years/100,000KM on the drivetrain - engine, transmission. LSD in my view is part of the drivetrain, therefore it should be covered up to 5 years. Now this is in Canada, but I don't imagine the US warranty is any different (correct me if I'm wrong).TXMazdaSpeeder said:

I dont have a broken LSD but I was afraid at 1st when the treads started poping up. I still think its how you drive the car. to tell you the truth there has been people pushin close to 300 whp on stock LSDs. and their are thosee that claim to be broken stock. I can only think of 2 MSPeeders with broken LSDs in Orlando and both are pretty heavy into drag racing and street racing. one was a complete idiot and I know his launched ****** his LSD.

The one of most powerful protege on here Fastlane with his 300+ whp project is still on stock LSD. Its been awhile since he made his "400 whp project" thread and he still has his stock LSD waiting to go out...because he bought a quaife too. and so is Azn6er, I think hes still on stock LSD. Then thier are people who claim they break theres pretty soon.
Only problem I had was that the radio unit broke.

I still get nervous everytime I see one of these threads thinking its going to happen to me. infact I saved up for a quaife but my LSD never broked. and I drive alot becuase I deliever food for a resturant 3 nights a week. I also autox every now and then but rarely go to the stripe.

Anyone who has had the lsd put in under warranty...
What did the dealer initially tell you upon looking at the car?
They are telling me I need a clutch, and basically just putting one in. So I guess they are gonna find out the hard way that its not the clutch. Although Im sure they'll see nothing wrong with it once they crack it open and then proceed to scratch their heads...
Ive been riding a rental car for 9 days now and my car hasnt moves since they're waiting for the clutch to come in. Here's the beauty part of it though. I never signed the work order AND they still havent even given me the price on the clutch. So IF they actually spend the time to put it in and then find it still doesnt work(cause the diff is obviously busted) guess who's not paying for a clutch

Welcome to my world, except they won't give me a rental car until they find out that it's covered under warranty. They told me it was the clutch, so I had someone else put an ACT in. The problem was still there, so I took it back in and they have been monkey-hammering it ever since. When they find it's the diff, they will be getting a nice bill for the clutch and install.

Well... I had sorta of related question about LSD.
I'm thinking about getting a 2003 MSP. It's been through 2 owners & has 40k. If the owners don't know, how do I go about finding out if the car still has it's original LSD or has it been work on my the dealership?

Charlie, you can buy a history check on a car by using the VIN.

The owners would know if the LSD was replaced, though. They should have service receipts.
Platinum, the only way to get the revised LSD is to break you stock one. I don't recommend trying to do that, though. Of course I didn't have to try at all; it just happened one day with no strain. If you are worried about it, you can buy an aftermarket one. The Quaiffe LSD seems to be the unanimous leader in that category.

yeah I have not heard of anyone breaking the quaife, but I have heard of the quaife breaking some people

Yeah, the Quaiffe is pricey. It also costs several hours of labor if you can't do it yourself.
thank god i dont have the stock lsd anymore... i am SO sick of dealing with the dealership 
good luck with everything. i know my dealership gave me a hard time with every single problem that was wrong with my car... except the rear sway bar bushings... they didnt even ask a question, just replaced them. (although that day i had a list of about 5 problems that i handed to them lol)

w3rd! cept in my case you can put the car in any gear w/o any grinding or stalling W/O pushing the clutch in. YEAH, it just needs a clutch(jerkit) . I had a nice convo w/ the tech who couldnt even tell me if I had a mechanical or hydraulic clutch.(boom03)tekkie said:

They should get you the right tranny because it will be brought up by vin #. But atleast your parts havent been sitting at the dealership, and the job completly paid for, for over a week now. Are they warrantying the parts? They called in the regional rep to make the call on my car and he discontinued any warranties that I had on the car, the only thing that I get done at mazda's expense is recalls....

LSD went boom
when mine went out last thursday they didnt ask any questions. they removed the old transmission and installed a brand new transmission. they also replaced my clutch, flywheel and pressure plate in the process. i only had to pay a $4.50 disposal fee for the old parts. Dick Edwards Mazda Kicks Ass

damn, you lucked out. I just got the call, my car is done. The SM told me after they took the old trans out and pulled it apart they saw the diff was split in two...just like I told him it would be. Then he told me after Mazda saw it they didnt want to warranty, but he "went to bat for me."
