jessus, i've owned 2, and havent had any problems yet (knocks on wood).
my altima had more problems in a week than both of my MSP's in 9 months.
a 4-months-old golf that my mom drives has more problems.
american cars.......forget about it.

the only car that i can say was 0-problem car was my '00 Si.
nothing EVER in 3 years.......NOTHING!

proteges are nice cars, all proteges. i have friends with base proteges, P5's, MP3's, and MSP's. none of them had any serious problems with their cars.

Ditto a PR-5 and and MSP no probs with either except the clunk came on after 20k miles on my MSP.
I would buy my MSP again but I would drive down to Austin and spend 16k on it instead :p

Right now w/ the 60 Mo. 0% financing and $2500 cash back. That plus my trade in would make my payments at about $50 or some unsightly low figure... DAMN IT :mad:

No, everyone wasn't expecting this car to be the way it is. Where do you get that from? And, in case anyone is going to ask what do I mean by "the way it is", is the crap load of exactly the same problems that almost everyone is having. There seem to be a very few lucky ones that have had no problems, but overall it's crap. I've taken my car in three times, each with four or more problems each time. It's been the turbo, clunk, seats, coolant leak, etc. Not only the fact that they are selling them for crap now and the trade in is horrible. Depreciation on this 'limited' edition car is pathetic. VW's have always been known for poor quality as far as I have ever heard. Mazda on the other hand is not known for making crappy cars, which I believe the MSP is.
 
You're an idiot. I said the car was built like crap, and the trade in isn't worth crap. I go to different forums and say the exact same thing. You go sell yours.
 
Look Jr member, I love my speed. Nicest car I have ever had. The car is not built like crap even if some members have had trouble with their cars. Every car manufacturer has issues with new cars. This the first year Protege's have had these components on them. New sound system, new Forced Induction, new suspension. All new things that are bound to have problems first time around. MOST people are happy with their cars. I'm just saying sell your car cause it seems you be happier with something else.

ITs a car, and gets from point A to point B, but if thats all I wanted, I wouldve jkept my Neon. :D I can get over the fact that this car, as is, is not very "tuner friendly" I can get over the fact of the small squeeks in the cabin. ( I just play my radio loud) I cannot get over the fact the MAzda put a problematic suspension on a car 2 years after the origional issue was found. I cannot get over the fact that the cars Fuel/Timing is poorly tuned, and will not be fixed, because Mazda does not want to pour more money into the MSP project. I cannot get over the fact that my Tranny is about to drop, I cannot get over the fact that Mazda has abandoned its origional promise to deliver performance parts for the MSP.

Other then that, I will keep my car, work to have our issues resolved, build my car how I see fit, and then sell it and start all over again.

FBI, there are few people who can take a car, regardles of its issues, and make it better. I just dont want to see someone expecting this wonderful car, spend their hard earned money on it, and then be disapointed. It is a common factor on this forum. Many here are not going to pretty mcuh tear apart thier car, and rebuild it to be an EVO KILLAR. Therefore, it is not the car for your average enthusiast.

That is all Im trying to really convey here, I do somewhat still love my car. It makes me happy to see it, in all its Spicy pimpness, but I still have my issues with MNAO.
 
Handling priority for me, and hp isn't everything like an average joe think it is ;)

With that in mind I would buy it again.

Now about not easily tunable, do you mean that you can get some bolt-ons and slap something to get @#% amout of HP? You know bolt on is not really tuning, it's un-educated people's tuning. True tuning is studying the system, work the trade factor, and build it to your spec, i.e. custom. Bolt-on is just paying the ad fees for the company. NO CAR IS UNTUNABLE!!

About quality problems, it's like lottery tickets. My mom's 01 accord had more problems than my protege. Her 92 camry was spotless. Our 02 civic had some problems as well as the 97 corolla. And this is from some of the highest quality auto manufactor.

So whats the difference in how any car gets from point A to point B do some of them hover that I havent heard about? Like I said this is the first time Mazda has ever done this/ brought out a car like this and its not going to run like a Champ without hitch. Yes the clunk was known about before but everything else is new. I love how all these people act like Mazda is the worst Car Company to deal with, have you people even tried talking to other Dealers? Ive dealt with much worse. And you act as If Mazda is purposefully trying to stiffle us by not taking care of the problems that have arisen. I dont know everything but last time I checked I dont know of any Car company going out of there way to spend more money to fix problems that occur all the time. Although no one wants to hear it the MSP "Project" isnt the only thing Mazda has going for them. When was there a promise made to cerate performance parts for the MSP? Im not saying there wasnt I just dont remember that. But they have released performance parts based on the MSP that can be put on other Protege Cars. If what your trying to convey is the car cant be tuned into a beast then dont bash its stock reliability or build quality, theres not much wrong with it. If anyone pays attention to Mazda's Forte is that of superior handling and braking, that which the MSP does wonderfully.
 
I am now the owner of a blue 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege. :D Already smells like coolant under the hood, but I still couldn't be happier. :D (k) :D

I love that color. Definitely would've been my next choice had I not been able to get an Orange one.

Oh and welcome to the forums. You've already seen we tend to bicker like brothers. But, it's all good. It's a family here and you can get a lot of useful info. out of these guys.

Hell, I'm glad it's not "tuner" friendly, cause I sure as hell am not a tuner. Of course than again a lot of the other guy on here are running close to low 14s and they don't call themselves tuners either. Hmmmm.
