idling

Hey Guys i could use some advise here. I dont know if im just paranoid or if i should really look into this.
Sunday i spend the day installing my new HID kit (that is a story for a different ocassion) and i was finally done later that night. When i went to take a quick joy ride i noticed that the car would struggle when idling. The RPM would drop to 500 (sometimes a bit less) RPM. I dont remember experiencing any of this before i installed the HIDs. I was curious to see fio the kit would have this effect.
The ballast provided says that it would work with 9 to 16 volts but right below that it says it uses 13.2 volts. When i was testing to see wich connector was positive and negative, i saw that the voltage coming out to the headlight is only 12.5. Now, im thinking that since im overdrawing the laternator then other components are struggling for power and the battery is not being recharged. Is that possible. I just can think of any other reason.

HID is not a big draw after about 10 - 15 seconds...

Yea what he said...they only have to draw that power to start after the 10 to 15 sec. they reach full color and they draw less power than stock halogens.

then i will scratch out the installation of the HIDs being a problem. So now, has anyone experienced a dip in rpms when idling? Is it just me noticing it more now?
what is people getting for rpms when idling? (MT)
I just feel like its dropping too low. 500 - 750 RPM seem low.

i think that is where mine idles right around 750 or so... need to go move my car in a bit, will double check for you... btw how you like the hid and how was the install b/c i hopefully will be getting some before the cold sets in...

thanks everyone that replied. I think i may have just been a bit paranoid cause i dont feel it anymore. Although as soon as i had put the HIDs on i did feel it almost stall but hasnt done it since.
Tsunami. The install was pretty easy. the only PITA is the clips that hold the bulb in place. when i say PITA i mean MAJOR PAIN IN THE ASS. I acctually bent one of the clips out of shape and i had to bend it back to somewhat the right shape. I still wasnt able to put back to where it should and it didnt clip the HID bulb. I just went ahead and left the bulb in place and secures it with the rubber ring, since the HID bulb has a bigger plastic core the ring kept it snug. i drove it all day today and night and went througha lot of vibration (roads here blow) and it still kept in place. Dude dont hesitate to PM me or email me if you need help or have questions at all. I was lucky that there was a Mazda 5 dude helping me out along all weekend. would not have done it without him.
By the way i also just put on the front rockblocker stuff. its damn sexy. did you put yours on yet?

sounds like a bit of a pain... i will prob be orderin a set the end of the month, i need to pay for the mazdaspeed goodies (sts and flywheel) to go with the clutch i won (yippy)... i haven't recieved my front covers yet.. though i haven't been home since thursday so they may have arrived... i had the hardest time with the rears and am actually in talks with chad from rock blocker about what to do, i loved the way they looked, i just ****** them up so bad when i put them on b/c the only way to get them on was to pull and stretch (damn 5 door body lines) and my finger prints where all over the under side of them lookin like ass. hopefully we will figure something out...

oh man, i also had a bit of a hard time doing the backs but i used a lot of soapy water in both the fixture and my hands and it was easier to handle. also by having my hands in soapy water i did not leave finger marks all over. The fronts are definitely much more difficult than the back ones. I just finished them and im exhausted. lol
I think i did an alright job, the first one is a bit off but the second one looks good. the fogs are wicked easy though. I was going to ask chad about some blistering on the headlights, i dont know if it was too hot or what but it looked like the layover was boiling and actaully it was very hot to the touch. i hope i didnt screw them up and the small bubbles dissappear the same way they did in the back.

yeah i used the soapy water trick as well, but to get the pieces to fit i had to stick one side down then pull and stretch like nobodies business to get the overlay to fit, and i tried it with the soapy water solution and i just kept slipping i could not get a good enough grip with the soapy water...so i did what i said above and it made it look like crap... chad told me the fronts would be easier then the back ones...??

Mine does that every time I disconnect the battery. It goes away in like 100 miles.

It takes time for the ECU to Re-Tune after a reset.
