Idle droop from hell???

Try running the car on full open throttle for a bit - either put it on stands and race the engine, or actually race around somewhere safe/track for 15 mins... just a thought

Useless, especially considering the car was raced only 2 days ago.

open throttle might clear out the carbon deposits...does miata have EGR? thats what happens with the protege5 anyway

Negative again on the WOT.

EGR wasn't introduced on the Miata until later 1.8L models.

also try a fuel injection cleaner - the kind you add to a tank of gasoline, it will clear out that whole point up to the engine, than running the engine open throttle will clear out everything after the engine with the exhaust

works on the p5 and makes sense the whole system just needs to be smoothed out by those two meathods

Skip the snake oil. That stuff has the potential to cause other problems IMO. There are other ways of doing the job (though this isn't the case in Andrew's situation).

owell, just posted what worked for my on the p5... almost took my EGR apart but ended up just getting the injector cleaner and opened the car up a few times and havent had problems since than

****. It's still doing it.
Crank, it revs to abt 2k, back to 1k, to ~1750, to 1k to ~1750 to 750, 500, 250, dead.

Kevin was saying the IAC as well. I'm going to check the Air valve tonight or tomorrow. The reason I don't think it's the IAC is that once it warms up, the idle will hold where I set it and drop down to 'normal' once the ECU picks it up (still a little rough, but whatev).

Don't most Miata's have this issue? I swear, that when I was searching around for my reason "Why?" and *tons* of Miata's were having the same problems. With me (as cleared up last night with Andrew) it was the EGR.

You have bad joo-joo in your motAR.

I never had an idle problem on either of mine. Actually, even when I had to drive 3 hours with a burnt exhaust valve, it ran surprisingly smooth-ish. When idling at a stop light, it was loud, and the exhaust fumes were killer, but idled fine on 3 cylinders.

I had some issues with mine (obviously) and knew some people with the same problem. *shrugs*

Well, found / McGyver fixed the problem. I had a 'small' vacum leak in the form of a 4-5" tear in my intake piping. Fortunately Korey (Shadow102) had electrical take on quick draw lol. Anyone have some stock intake piping laying around they want to donate to a noble cause?

Wierd thing is I've never taken off that portion of pipe. Old cars ftw/l/w/l/w/l lol

since the car isn't in front of me, I can't diagnois it. But what have you checked so far? First thing, and easiest and free things to do is put the car in Diagnoisis mode and check idle and timing. Also check for vacume leaks.
Ahem... (wiggle) It's not technicly a vacum leak, but it's a leak between the AFM and intake. So a leak there would make the ECU go all wakhy

yea it did. It was wierd, the 'mechanical' idle was working better after I adjusted it, it was when it kicked over to the ECU that it went totally screwey.

I found the pic I was looking for. http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=21025&d=1087421323

i took off the resonator, and put a PVC plug in there. Well, under boost the plug came out. So I stuffed a rag in there and wrapped the whole thing with tape. lolhttp://www.mazdas247.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=21025&d=1087421323http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=21025&d=1087421323 The part wrapped around the bellows was just reinforcement, it didn't do much as it heated up and the glue melted...

Fadi, you just have to out-do everyone don't you.

That's an awsome amount of duct tape, lol.

electrical tape. It *should* hold. I've got a spare in case it doesn't :p
