Ideas for a cooler air conditioner

Has anyone ever wrapped there a/c lines with Thermo Tec wrap or sleeve before? Im curious to see if that would help improve my a/c efficiency. They dont look to be well insulated.

Heres the problem: When i bought the car the a/c wasnt working. I recently replaced a leaking a/c line in my p5 that ran the system dry. I took it to be cleaned and recharged. Problem solved...but its only a little bit cooler than before. I can honestly say its almost not worth turning on even on 100 degree days. Is this normal? or is there anyway to improve my a/c efficiency.

Let me add....The vents are pretty clean, with no weird odor(fresh clean air).

Mine did that to but keep in mind you also have a lot more air to cool vs the sedan guys. So in short does it feel cool in the car after its been running for a little bit? I know my old p5 it used to feel like how yours is but when i got to work I had to turn the b**** off it was so cold.

Well, after ten minutes or so i still couldnt feel a difference. But if you put the face to the vent it could tell a tad bit cooler. Almost feels like the air is blowing at room temp. Not very cold. You surely cant feel it in the back when you first turn it on. Plus, I always have to turn it to 4 and circulating. Is that normal as well?

It sounds like there is still an issue with the A/C in your car.

The A/C in my P5 (like the 323 before it) is a bit anemic. The air should feel cold coming out of the vent. Whether or not that actually cools the car off quickly...

You always have to turn it onto 4 as in the positions 2 and 3 arnt working? BTW it could just be that hot outside that it takes awhile for the ac to catch up. The AC in my truck will freeze your nuts off but on extremely hot days it doesnt feel like its hardly working tell you give it a bit to catch up.

See ive never had purchased a car that has a properly working a/c. Most of my cars a/c were taking out in install a turbo or just plain not working. Other vehicles seem to be ice cold though...to the point you have to turn it off 10 minutes later. How long does your p5s take on average to want to turn the a/c off. 15-20?(shrug) I do agree that its 100 degrees here in utah so it might take time to cool the car down.

My guess is that from the look the those a/c lines...the dont seem to be well insulated from heat. Expecially were there is no rubber at all. So with the heat from sitting there on a normal day plus running the engine...is enough to increase the temperature of the those lines. Im not too familiar with air conditioning systems so maybe im wrong.

Exactly, and to me its just not as cold as a lot of the vehicle ive been in. Toyota, Nissan, and Subaru. It just doesnt seem to be right to me.

shoot, my a/c only blows on 4!!! and you gotta play with the dial in order for it to blow. hopefully the warranty will take care of it!!

I know my p5 blows the air out pretty hard... would cleaning the evaporator core fins or condenser fins (I dont remember) help? Where can i find that?

I really doubt that cleaning anything you can reach in the engine compartment is going to make any difference. Take it to an A/C shop for a diagnosis.

is you system full of freeon and hasn't leaked it all out? Also their is a electrical plug on top of the compressor if not plugged it the AC will nto blow cold.

Its completely full of freeon and theres no leaks. I will check for that plug! Its odd to me, cuz its blows colder with the a/c on then with just the air, but doesnt seem to be cold enough to cool the entire car. Expecially in the back, you cant even feel it. Im just curious if people even use their a/c in the protege5 cuz if they dont....thats probably why.

Update: The lines are very cold with the a/c on.

Take it somewhere and get the pressure checked, is your compressor coming on? also note its not freon, its now 134a.

Better that than 1. :\ Used to be 1 and 4 now it's just down to 1. Let's just say I prefer highway driving in the summertime.

We fixed it once but then I just got fed up. Do you have the link to the fix? I can run a search also but if you have it offhand that would help a lot. I'm ok with heat, generally, so for me it's just become something I tolerate, but when people are in my car it would be nice for it to be cooler. Thanks in advance. :)

Edit: Uhhh yeah, if you could help me out with that link that would be awesome, a lot of the results for an AC fix were bulls*** posts from The Longest Thread. Thread whoring has finally caught up with me, lol.

if you just replaced ur hose and had the ac line off for a while and u ran it down to no freon (134a) you should of replaced ur receiver drier, and check your compressor, other then that u cant get it too cool or you will freeze ur evaporator up.
