I was going to buy a CR-V...Not anymore

Maybe You*re referring to something different, but Mazda*s plants definitely shut down this summer and only resumed normal operation this month, which is probably the 3 months Reno was told about,

Record number of typhoons have hit Japan this summer. The news you referred was happened in July and the production from Mazda plant in Hiroshima got affected by typhoon and heavy rain. Recent hit by typhoon was on 9/4 and 9/5, which caused severe flooding to Osaka*s Kansai International Airport but the area is far away from Mazda*s plants. The major earthquake hit Hokkaido on 9/6, which is thousands miles away from Hiroshima and Hofu plants.

IMO, those Mazda dealers simply use flooding and earthquake to create a false image of short supply. We should really worry about current trade war and higher tariffs which definitely will raise the car prices very soon!

The disabling of the CD is the best mod ever done to all the people I know who have them installed. $200 well spent...

If I had to have a car with CD, no doubt I'd order it within minutes of getting home from the stealership...

I had a jeep with it. Worked great. Newrly 100k miles, never an issue. Seamless. Awesome. Maybe chrysler is better at making engines than Mazda?

There was a lot of flooding in and around Hiroshima earlier this summer. I dont know about 3 months but the plants did shut down for a period of time.

Lots of things happen that dont hit the news. The Hokkaido earthquake shut down a major Toyota transmission assembly plant which in effect forced Toyota to suspend operations. Power is still sketchy in the North.

Who knows, the dealers might legitimately be bracing for a delayed effects. The article I posted said they lost 33,000 in SUV production across all markets due to the flooding. However, I just checked CarGurus, and there are currently over 18,000 new 2018s on the market. Its possible the majority of them were pre-flood deliveries. Mazda sells about 12,000/month, so if deliveries got delayed just 5-6 weeks, then dealers would certainly feel it.

I havent knocked any car manufacturers engines, Ive just simply stated I have no use for CD, nor do I want it on any of my vehicles.
Heck, I havent even said its faulty or breaks down...

But, since you bring up Chrysler, dont want any of those either. Do wish i still had my Dads Old CJ Jeep, though, but that was the AMC days, and she was one of a kind...

That's not that unrealistic. In Cleveland, at least.

My bad. You said OTD. Yeah, that's going to be hard.

Not hard at all, if theyre already posting that price, I can get them to double that discount easily, covering the taxes, etc...

Please tell me where I can get a brand new Grand Touring AWD for 30k out-the-door in Virginia and I'm there tomorrow.
Theyre out there my friend. Helped numerous get them, and picked myself up one for $274xxk OTD, but my tax was only $300, but still...Good luck...

I took a half dozen adds from the internet to my dealer and asked him to match them. He pointed out they were far away. I replied that I was buying the car because it was fun to drive and I have a friend that will fly me there for the gas and that is fun as well. I might as well start with a road trip. He met there price.

Exactly...

I actually flew to get mine. The local dealer wouldnt match it, heck, they wouldnt even budge off MSRP, even when I told them I had several great deals lined up. All good, fuel up the plane, lets fly...

2. Dont let cylinder deactivation scare you away from a 2018. Remember, Mazda has sold over 100,000 CX-5s already this year, making it by far their #1 car. The CD feature isnt that meaningful, so if Mazda wasnt supremely confident in the reliability of the engine, why would they risk their business? Not the type of thing to worry about imo.

+1. I may have muzzled the VCM on my Odyssey, but until I see compelling evidence of CD being an issue on CX-5s I wouldnt worry about it or steer clear of the model year entirely.

Supposedly Honda fixed their issues with the piston rings rotating, aligning, and allowing oil to blow by and cause all that damage over time on newer models. I deactivated the VCM on my van for peace of mind should it not be fixed, and mostly to get rid of the poor handling and vibrations while it was enabled. When youre cruising along and your van starts vibrating like youre on rough road while on a brand new highway, you know that your motor mounts are taking a beating from that engine.

As for Mazda, its much easier to keep a line 4 in balance deactivating cylinders vs a V6!

Yup. Cars are portable. they come with wheels so they are easy to move. GRIN

LoL. I do wish there was an in dash notification. I mean....I could buy an AWD badge and slap it on my FWD and sell it to you. You wouldn't know...

I'd prefer a 6WD badge because 6>4. LOL

On serious note, is the AWD in the CX-5 FWD bias and the AWD only locks up when needed (slippage, ect.) or is their an on-off button?

Its highly FWD biased. No on-off button. It does a damn good job of transitioning when needed though it seems.
