i want a turbo...

ok i am not looking to get crazy but would def like a small turbo. maybe a used one or something. i found a bolt on kit for the mp5 but it was like
$3,800. way to much for me. any suggestions. by the way, i dont know s*** about turbos except they sound sick.

YOu might want to do alittle more research into a turbo setup if thats all you know about turbos. (I'm not tryign to sound like a dick or anything) You can purchase cheap turbo kits for 2.5k from hiboost if i recall correctly but that doesn't include any management or anything.

+1 You need to do a lot of research on how turbo's work before you get one. Is not like you adding an unknown tire shine product where bad result = crappy looking tire, bad results with a turbo kit = blown engine.

Read the turbo bible found here before you begin:
http://www.theturboforums.com/turbotech/main.htm

Then you can start researching your options, the 2 most common:
1) hiboost or other turbo kit
2) Build your own using parts from MSP or elsewhere.

Good luck.

since no one else has mentioned it.. yeah the hiboost kit is only 4k but there's another 1k at least that you really should spend:
- boost, oil pressure, wideband gauges
- clutch (200ish for stock MSP clutch)
- zip ties for factory vacuum lines ($1)
- catch can for PCV ($50)
- check valve for fuel return system, and for pcv
- oil line upgrade if the hiboost stuff isn't nice
- midpipe, catback (.. 800 ish dollars right there)

around $1250 should also get you a stock MSP set up, minus the A/C condenser. But you can get a used FMIC from another member too.

i have a
msp manifold
msp turbo
msp downpipe
msp j-pipe
front mount intercooler minus piping
for sale...

I did a FMIC to avoid the crap with the a/c condenser and radiator.. and getting hte a/c recharged and crap. I ended up spending well over 3k.. started with a mint-ass turbo (stock msp) for $225, manifold (stock msp) for $75, ECU for $350 (stock msp from protegegarage), ... but then the other stuff really adds up quickly. I also replaced some stuff while I had the car apart like radiator hoses, gear oil (pulled the tranny so I kinda needed to), installed a new msp clutch, new drive belts, new timing belt, etc. I think I did tally up the costs directly related to the turbo install and it was still quite a bit, even with used parts. DEFINITELY cheaper than the hiboost route, by a couple thousand dollars. Their kit is very nice though, if you don't go the "kit" route, prepare to deal with a lot of frustration getting parts to work together and every day figuring out there is one little piece you are missing (hand)
