I saw a Protege GTR

I was in Calgary during the weekend for a track meet. In the parking lot was an otherwise very nice looking 01-02 Protege ES. White, nice rims, tint, exhaust, fairly nice altezza-stype lights(not my thing) and a big GTR emblem. It was without mistake an emblem for a Skyline, probably the R33. I was disgusted. Anyone who wants to compare his protege to a Skyline... well,... so sad.:(
Why do people badge their car improperly? Most people have no idea what GTR stands for so they don't give a sh*t. But the people who do know that protege's do not come as GTRs and that Skylines do, these people are usually disgusted by it. So who is this owner trying to impress?

what you have found is a condition commonly known as a 'RICER', more technically as RACERUS WANNABETIS. You have picked up on the most obvious trait of a Ricer, the wrongfully applied model designation sticker/decal :D

a good find, yet this ailment has been spreading across North America like the plague. Something must be done before we ALL become certified ricers

exactly. THey call those people RICERS.

Last week I saw a Integra RS with the biggest Tpe R decal EVER on the side and the ITR wing. Although it is possible the guy dropped the ITR engine in it, I really, really doubt it!

the thing that gets me...is IF they actually did that....why in the world would you want to advertise it to everyone? why not just leave the big sign off and sneek up and KICK SOME ASS!!

sleepers are so cool......and they certainly leave a priceless look on peoples faces.

:{D

Before you guys go any further with this, I must tell you that this is dealer installed. They have a "GTR" package which consists of Alteeza style lights, Ractive "Superflow" Intake and an axle back Ractive exhaust. I believe these are avilable in Alberta and Manitoba. I am not dure what else comes in the package but don't blame the owner, blame the dealer.

I know one of the companies that is doing that in Calgary is a company called Auto Zeal. There are actually a very reputable shop, I believe markmurray is right and the GTR package is a dealer package, then they contract out the parts and install. I saw a yellow Pro5 with the GTR package installed by AutoZeal and it was actually really nice, matching leather etc. Kramer Mazda in Calgary wanted an extra $6,000.00. It included Momo wheels, shift knob, pedle kit, cat-back exhaust, short air intake and leather seats. Still costs to much for me to afford thou!

Before everyone get's there panies in a twist and start having a cow. Mazda made the 323 GT-R/GTX hatchback before the Protege came out. In 1990 the Familia protege replaced the 323 with the sedan 4-door and so on.....so technically in canada they still call the Protege GT-R or Familia sport 20. But Unfortuantely A-spec.com with the RX-7 has the familia sedan and call it the GT-R with the KL-03 V-6motor which it is a body style of 1991 protege GT(LX).

Auto Zeal is an aftermarket parts store. I don't care if they did it or the owner, it's still misbadged and rice. It was without a doubt a Skyline GTR badge. This is not a 323 GT-R/GTX so it is misbadged and looked retarded and out of place.

All the other mods looked nice and fairly clean(as mentioned before) but slapping on a Skyline badge is plain retarded.

yeah...i don't think everybody is going after the fact that it says "GT-R" on the back but the fact that it was a skyline GT-R badge...rule number one with badging should be don't mix and match...go to beaterz.com for more no-no's

that's just GREAT!

NOW I'll have to take all of those John Deere badges off my MP3! You guys with your little rules and stuff... Man!
