If the MSP is @ 6-7 psi how did he beat me running 4.5psi? We have the same engine 2.0l

jeremy's got a few things that helps him, such as a better flowing manifold that helps him spool faster, bigger intercooler, maybe even a bigger turbo. what size and trim is in the fm kit?

Isn't there a static compression ratio difference and different fuel/spark mapping as well? I don't know much about the MSP but I doubt it's just a turbo kit on a stock Protege.

BAHAHHA!!! That's my GF!!!!!

Your wrong there. The manifold on the FM kit does not flow better than the Calloway kit at all. The manifold that Calloway built is a much better design than BEGI's. Also, the intercooler on the FM kit isn't much larger than the one on the Mazdaspeed. The only reason you got beat is because you have a T-25 or 28, whatever they use. The FM kit uses a T3. A much larger turbo. I hate it when someone buys a performance car and knows absolutely nothing about it. Try buying the book "Maximum Boost", youv'e got some learning to do.

are you talking to me there ben? cause i really dont care what the about the specs of those systems, i was just taking guesses.

affecting boost......

there are a bunch of things that can affect boost but lets keep it simple.....

1. turbo size
2. type of turbo (turbines make a difference)
3. distribution of heat throughout turbo
4. manifold design
5. pipe legth
6. intercooler size
7. wheel & tire size and weight
8. back pressure due to turbo
9. back pressure due to atmosphere

i think one of the main reasons is the size. the FM kit uses a larger turbo. the smaller turbo may spool faster, but mid to top range it spools less then a larger one. should i keep going?

I know this is a bit off topic, but is there anyone else out there running more than 8.5 psi? I don't really like being the the 'one guy' that is running more boost than anyone else. That scares me. Terry- what psi are you at now?

HEY BIG BEN!!!!!!!!

alot of it is driver skill anways. if you know your car..it's limits..push it hard..you in most cases it's not hard to beat a slightly higher powered car. having 800 miles on the car especially since majority of those were break in miles. you don't know the limits of the car yet. give it to somone who can drive. you would probably be dead even til his BIGGER turbo started making more power...like 3rd gear and up highway speeds. or be neck and neck with him all the way.

and to the first page of this thread? why does everyone need to rip on a "civic ricer" in my civics "glory" it was running low to mid 14's all motor street trim and tire...not the fastest thing out on the street. not every civic is a ricer.

Z's MSP:
once you know your car limits and are more comfortable. run him again. i bet the outcome will be diffrent. you will either hang with him or beat him. as long he stays at 4.5 psi.
