03 black msp and silver p5
well due to my wife needing a vehicle (and i can finally work on the msp) we found a great deal on a 2000 jaguar s-type luxury edition. its black with black leather and woodgrain int, chrome 20'' rims and the car has a chrome package. beautiful car.

the bad: dealer has to replace the front right window motor. "b****" keyed across the trunk (deep too). chrome letters on trunk is pealing, cats have to be replaced, and headliner and a-pillers are needed to be re-wraped. it also has 101,000 miles.

i looked up pro's/cons and its either really bad, or the best car they have ever owned.

all this for $4,800.

or

1998 cadillac fleetwood: black on black. leather, fullyloaded. 86,000 miles. cherry condition

bad: its a cadillac. gas hog, old person style. needs new tires.
all for $4,900.

what would you guys do? im leaning towards the jag but the reliability is killing me, not to mention the cost of the parts when they break. these are really the only cars available to me. or a 2000 chevy blazer 4x4 with 98xxx miles for $3,800. opinions wanted, good or bad.

the jag x-type is not only un-reliable, but expensive to maintain.. the caddy isn't much more reliable, but at least just about every part can be bought at napa or autozone. If you buy the jag, trust me, you'll be at the dealer every month shelling out $200+

gas is cheap now, and probaly will stay below $2 for another year or two if it's any comfort. Also, you'll be paying for 89-93 with the jag and the fleetwood takes 87 I'm betting.

But I'm a hypocrite, had the choice between my S4 and a 3rd gen firebird and I'm paying for it big time (just blew through $400 for a p/s pump and spider hose) although, I think I'm more satasified with the S4 than I would have been with the firebird

stay clear of the blazer, period.

I've only known 2 xtypes and both cost their owners a solid $500 a month for 3-4 months the time I knew them, but mabye they just treated them horribly. (shrug)

well my wife seen the caddilac and asked who we're taking to a funeral, so thats out. well, i i get the jag atleast if its a lemmon i know who i can get the hook up with, thanks spooledup.

I'm not too sure how many parts are compatible...but the S-Type shares a platform with the Lincoln LS. Some mechanical parts could probably be had for a reasonable price.

I would rather see him go buy a BMW instead of this rebodied Lincoln LS.

He is looking at the S-Type which is based on the Lincoln LS. The X-Type is based on the Euro Ford Mondeo.

I would not touch a Jag over 5 years or out of warranty. My uncle owns a S-Type R or whatever it called and its has been a maintance nightmare. And there is two X-Types in my family and they are back to dealer every other week. So I would stay clear....

I would get neither. There have to be other options out there in that price range. If you want something more luxurious and used, I'd get a Lexus or an Avalon.
