How to wash without stripping wax?

A week ago I clayed and did a Meguires 3-step on my car. I would like to wash the car sometime this week, and probably put a coat of NXT on it. How can I wash it to get off the dirt without undoing the work I just did?

Please be gentle; I'm new at this stuff.

Oh, I do have a bottle of Eagle One car wash, which claims to not strip the wax. Think there is any reality to that claim?

Use any gentle car wash detergent and you'll be OK. I use this big container of turtle wax wash and use a lot of it each time to sufficiently lubricate and clean the surface. If you rub too hard wax will come off.

yup, as mentined above use a good car shampoo (meguires, turtle wax (wax as you wash)) something like that and you should be just fine!! yea i did the same (i clayed and put a coat of NXT on my car...friday im gonna re-wash (damn rain) and spray wax the entire car! I LOVE WASHING/WAXING MY CAR!!!!!!!

yup just make sure you never use dawn or some dish soap as its designed to cut grease etc it'll take wax off car soap is kool tho

Use too much soap and it will leave residue. Rinse your car off till it doesn't feel slippery anymore. Also the car wash soaps with the wax mixed-in with it will build up and turn your lenses yellow after awhile.

Mother's California Gold Car wash .... :) good stuff....

use two or three sponges or soft wash mitts. one for the upper portion of the car, and then one for the dirtier lower portion of th car. change the water often and make sure no dirt gets trapped in the mitt. it's best to wash and rinse off, then do another section of the car. don't let the soap dry onto a section.

Pretty much everytime you wash you'll strip away the wax little by little, so eventually you'll need to reapply them. Though, if you just applied them not long ago and this is your first time wash since, then you don't need to worry about stripping it. It usually takes about 5 or 6 washes (I polish + wax again after 5 or 6 washes) to strip the wax. In addition, it also depend on the condition where your car is at. If you get alot of dust, dirts, out in the sun, usually wax strip away quicker than having it in shade and protected (garage) area.

Nonetheless, just wash as you would regularly with some quality shampoo (Meguiar, P21S, Poorboy, etc..) and you'll be fine.

yes very important to use quality shampoo what is also important is follow the soap/water ration instructions. Too much of any soap will remove most of the wax.

Well, I washed and the water still beaded up nicely.

Didn't put on a coat of NXT like I was planning to, as I fell asleep :p
