My apologies in advance for not taking pictures but this one is pretty easy and I didn't think of it at the time.
Thanks to Zachman07 and his dad for giving me a couple of tips on how to make the install easier.
Tools:
8mm Socket + Extension
10mm Socket + Extension
Long Flat Blade Screwdriver
Equipment:
(4) TWM Shift Base Bushings (or equivalent product)
(4) Metal washers (included)
Step 1:
Removing the center console.
The instructions TWM gives you really doesn't make too much sense on the 2010. So here's a quick way to get the console pieces out. Remove the (2) 8mm bolts in your cubby area and set them aside. Push the E-brake down and reach your hand inside the E-brake area and pull slowly. The center cup holder will pop out.
Step 2:
Removing the shift console/boot
Unscrew the shift knob and set it aside. Gently pull up on the right side of the shift console while pressing out on the center console plastic. The right side will come up pretty easy. Then hold the right side up while pulling the left. The entire shift console will pop up. Be careful not to pull to hard, there are wires connected and damaging them would not be in your best interest.
Step 3:
Removing the stock bushings/grommets
Remove the (4) 10mm bolts and set them aside, you will reuse these as well. Take the flat blade screw driver and gently pry the metal bushings out of the shift assembly. Set them aside in case you want to revert to stock. Now here's where everyone rips their knuckles! Instead of trying to pry the rubber bushings out of the shift assembly, simply push them through the assembly and retrieve them from underneath. You can pull the assembly up to make this process easier. Take your time so you don't lose them. Set them aside in case you want to revert to stock.
Step 4:
Installing the new Shift Base Bushings
Pull the shift assembly up slightly so you can slide the bushings (small diameter up) underneath each hole. Once you have them lined up place the (4) metal washers on top of each hole, then proceed to replace the bolts torquing them down gently. I don't know the torque spec but I would guess 15lbs or so.
Step 5:
Reinstalling the Shift console/boot
Slide the shift boot/console over the shifter and gently but quickly snap it into place. Press around each edge to make sure it's lined up
Step 6:
Reinstalling the center console
Pull the E-brake up and slide the console onto it. Snap it gently into place. Press around each edge to make sure it's lined up and seated properly. Replace the (2) 8mm bolts in the center console cubby.
Step 7:
Enjoy your new shift experience
The bushings definitely make a difference. There is way less shift-slop and the engagement feels more precise/crisp if that makes any sense.
If you have any questions, PM me. TWM really needs to revamp their instructions for the 2010.
