How to switch between Intermittent and Auto Sensing Wipers on 2013 CX-9 ?

I've read the owners manual and I'm still confused. Seems like if your vehicle is equipped with Auto Sensing wipers then you can't just operate in Intermittent mode. Am I correct ?

Correct for pre-2013 models.
Not sure about new ones.
You could do a single wipe, though.
Sensitivity can also be adjusted.
What is the problem?

No problem really, just want to make sure I understand. I pick up my new 2013 early next week and must drive 400 km to get home. Just want to be prepared in the event of bad weather when driving home. Don't want to be blinded by a passing transport and suddenly have to figure out how the wipers work. My old car was quite a bit different with wiper control, none the least of which are that the wiper controls are mounted on the other side of steering column.

The owner's manual says not to leave in Auto all the time, as it could be activated by false signals. I guess if weather is showing signs of turning bad, Auto should be engaged in preparation, unlike Intermittent wipers which are activated in reaction to a rain event. Just a slightly different way of driving in rain.

Yeah, I hear you. The Auto setting on my 2011 is only OK at best. It seems to miss sometimes even when I set it to the Fasting setting. I do make sure that the glass infront of the sensor is clean. I do find myself sometimes bumping it up to the regular continuous setting but that sometimes is a bit too frequent. I just wish the Auto setting had a setting that was even a bit more "frequent". If anyone knows of a fix, please let me know.

Auto replaces intermittent mode. I leave it on all the time, except in the car wash, or when it's foggy, sometimes it has a hard time figuring out what to do with all the moisture in the air. Same deal on my 6-year old Lexus--never had a problem with leaving it on.
