How-To: LED Interior / Reverse / Licence plate lights

You know I've had this car since the summer of 07 and have, almost every night, BITCHED about not having a light in the hatch. I just looked at this guide again and went downstairs and saw where the light is....dumb...

Anyway I just now ordered the LED replacment for the cargo light.

I got blue LEDs for all the interior lighting and white for the license plate. The bad news is that my trunk light is still stock because my friend wanted to help me but dropped it in between the carpeting and the body while sitting on my trunk and now I lost it...>_>". Now I gotta order a one dollar and something bulb and pay five dollars or whatever for shipping.

just ordered the cool white leds. thought very hard about the blues but i think i would get tired of them. from what i can tell the whites hold up the lighting fairly well... thanks to all the pics.

Ok I just got the bulb for the hatch light in the mail today. Changed it over and not I've broken the switch to the light damnit! Now it won't work at all and the switch is very loose ad floppy.

im having the same EXACT issue, seems like i have to hit it or keep switching it on and off to get it going, im not sure what the problem is...

Weird question but, I put these lights in and for some reason I have the top center dome light installed and during the day when it is set to door or on it turns on but when its night time and its set to door and on it won't turn on. all of the other lights work when the door is open or when they are set to on but this one. I thought at first that the bulb was bad but during the daytime it will turn on, but as soon as it gets dark it won't light up. I have no idea why this is happening...maybe its a phantom bulb that only comes out during the day? haha

you all figure this out?

I tried the reverse bulbs, because I wanted more visibility when backing up. (I have a 5% tint back there and it's sometimes scary backing up at night.) The aftermarket reverse bulbs from superbrightleds.com were very disappointing. They're only brighter if you look them straight-on. I determined this by putting just one in and having the other stock. And since there's just a single LED diode on the end, it doesn't cast light in a (close to) 360-degree cone like the stock incandescent bulb does. So you're not taking advantage of the mirror-reflective bulb housing that casts the light. Basically the stock ones were effectively "brighter". I recommend not buying those bulbs. I'll eventually try to discover some other bulb that is brighter. Someone pointed me toward these ones they have on Amazon that have like 15+ LED diodes on them; maybe those work.

could this be why the part with the term "LUXEON" in it listed by the OP isn't any longer available, but they have this instead?

that would work, but I think those are like $25 each tho... For my reverse lights I got ones that only ended up being $7 each, they just arent the 130 degree ones.

Thanks for the write up! Helped bunches! Was able to remove the glove box with confidence, Thanks!!

heyheyhey,,,

thx for the great write-up.! I printed it out and was able to succesfully install all the LED's, with the exception of the reverse lights which I am not planning to change out.

one issue I did run into is regarding the ms3 kickplate. I don't see how it pops out..... I actually scratched it up a bit trying to pry it out. but then I came to my senses, and realized the kickplate has nothing to do with the glove compartment, it is totally separate. the glove box came out easy without touching the kickplate... so why is that instruction in there?.?.

thx!
