Some people who post here have a small picture or icon that displays on the left hand side of their posts (or sometimes the signature area). To clarify the spot I mean, right now, my "Member" area says:

"Woody

Registered: May 2002
Location: Minneapolis, MN, USA
Posts: 77"

How do I insert a small photo there? I assume it is something with the vb codes ("url"..."/url") - but where do I reference the link to get it to show in my "Member" area with my posts?

Thanks!

Woody - that picture is called an "avatar." I don't know if you have to have a certain number of posts before you can change yours, but if you click the "user cp" button then select "edit options" you'll find a spot at the bottom of that page that says "change avatar." You can use one of the many they have there or one of your own as long as it's 75 by 75 pixels max. You get more of the site's avatars to choose from as your post count goes up, sort of like a prize for being an active member! Let me know if you still need help!

Ari:)

Ari,

Nice Avatar. You have changed a lot since the last picture I saw of you when we did the Member Pics thread. You seem to have become more hostile, volatile, and........ buff.

lol... meet the new me! (just kidding) I like to think I'm a nice and sweet girl, but every now and then even a good girl's gotta handle her business! hehe...

Here's the whole painting by Luis Royo. He does fantasy art for comics and we hire him to illustrate for some of our movie boxes. He's incredibly talented.

ADRAGONFLY,

Thanks for the tip. As you can see, I figured it out. (The yellow P5 is my photo.)

ZOMZOOMH,

I think you lost me - you mean the P5 and FZ1 are a good combination?

ADRAGONFLY,

OK. I thought of that later. If so that was really sweet. By the way, how did you get a picture of my wife to use as your "avatar"?

Royo is great. My favorite contemporary artist is Dorian Cleavenger. What do you think of his work, Ari?

Nope! Not watching you! I've strongly considered purchasing an original of his from his web site.

He has an amazing realistic quality that captures the soul of the subject. When he juxtaposes this with the surrealistic, I'm awestruck!

I see this same quality in Bouguereau's work (my favorite 19th century painter). Although Bouguereau was (and is) dissed by impressionists and renaissance aficionados alike, his ability to render life to the canvas was phenomenal. Sure, his poses were "stagy" and his backgrounds, sometimes cartoony, but I love him for his emotional depictions.

As for the coincidence - serendipity wouldn't happen if there weren't examples!

Syz, you're so articulate... I appreciate a person who can discuss art especially when most people find it intimidating or too esoteric.
