Since I have been getting a lot of requests for this info lately, I thought I would start a thread.
I can post pictures at some point also. This mostly applies to P5's since they both have the lower side marker and upper fender side marker. It should work on regular protege's and MSP if you use the side marker in the headlight, but I cannot guarantee it.
Disclaimer: Use a DMM (digital multimeter) to verify all wire polarities. Solder, heat shrink, and tape all connections as these areas may get wet. I take no responsibility if you burn down your car, house, street, etc.
1. Cut Negative (black) wire from side marker, leaving a couple inches on the light side. Tape off the other side as it is not used anymore.
2. Tag on to the Positive wire from the lower side marker for P5's or the side marker on the headlight on MSP's.
3. Connect that Positive wire to the cut wire going to the Negative on the side marker.
4. Make sure to solder and heat shrink/tape all connections.
5. Hella JDM.
