I was trying to use the stock fans also, but like you, it wasn't happening. I came up with the same idea, but it's gonna look a whole lot uglier than just the j-pipe coming off the turbo.
So, I'm having fuel cut but almost only when it's really hot. If I'm moving, it's hit or miss if it will happen. But if say I am sitting at a red light, then go to take off there it is. As soon as I start moving, it clears up a lot, although it's still there. I can't decide whether it's because of the MAF needing to be relocated, or if it's the hot air (IAT) causing it happen. If I'm driving at night in cooler temperatures, it rarely happens.
