How To: Ebay FMIC

I was trying to use the stock fans also, but like you, it wasn't happening. I came up with the same idea, but it's gonna look a whole lot uglier than just the j-pipe coming off the turbo.

So, I'm having fuel cut but almost only when it's really hot. If I'm moving, it's hit or miss if it will happen. But if say I am sitting at a red light, then go to take off there it is. As soon as I start moving, it clears up a lot, although it's still there. I can't decide whether it's because of the MAF needing to be relocated, or if it's the hot air (IAT) causing it happen. If I'm driving at night in cooler temperatures, it rarely happens.

hmm, it's usually the opposite with me, but I would say relocate your MAF and tune the car is the only way to fix it
I'm going to relocate the MAF tonight, but I've got to fabricate some type of heat shield to keep my intake air temperature down.

Well, tried my hardest to fit the stock fans in with my piping...wasnt happening, so I decided to re-route the hot pipe and found a perfect way to do it.

So here is the new pipe routing(I had to use a couple straight lengths because the pipes I needed I had already cut and messed up)

Turbo > Cut 90 degree pipe(plus straight pipe piece) > coupler > Cut 90 degree pipe(plus straight pipe piece) > 90 coupler pointed straight up > straight pipe piece > 90 degree coupler > FMIC inlet

I wrapped the AC line with the heat wrap from the stock plastic pipe.

The install would look a lot cleaner if I had fulll 90 degree pipes that I hadnt previously cut.

That's how I'm going to route my hot pipe, just was waiting to get some couplers that I didn't have.

I posted a test fit a little bit ago. I'm not putting the bumper on till I get the fans installed and get it on the road...that way I dont have to take it all back apart if there is an issue.

How you mount the intercooler to the crash bar, and what you use.

I cut off the lower portion of the crash bar, then measured and drilled 2 holes to match the mounting points on the FMIC, then I cut out 2 squares on the back of the crash bar so I could fit the bolts in and torque them down to secure the FMIC. Took some time but it paid off in the end :D

I did a similar thing, but I didn't completely cut off the bottom of the crash bar, just most of it though, and I just cut where the IC is, so say if I got a longer IC eventually, I would have to cut a little further out on the crash bar, but instead of thinking about cutting out little holes on the back of the crash bar, which would have been a ton easier, I went through about 4 different drill bits drilling holes and trying to match up the IC and bolts from the top of the crash bar lol, was a PITA but I still like it, Evil's way would be much easier and smarter, but I didn't realize when I first started how damn hard it would be to drill through the crash bar, oh well.. still looks good

I wouldn't want to do this in my driveway like most of you are probably doing. I'm lucky enough to have a fully-equipped state-of-the-art shop at my disposal. I mounted mine the same way you did Evil. My car is running like complete hell right now, and it's far beyond annoying. I'm hoping that relocating the MAF will alleviate my poor running, but I have my doubts. It's like there is a charge leak somewhere and I'm hitting fuel cut, but I smoke tested it, and it's all sealed nice and tight. I'm seriously thinking about going back to the factory side mount for now just because this is currently my daily driver and it's so ******* annoying when I can't take a Honda Civic that has pieces falling off of it as it's passing me. Lol.

haha, do you have a ss afc or any type of management? even when I had the smic (although it wasn't stock, I hate the stock one with a passion) it was still hitting fuel cut, the car is just tuned really bad by mazda, since they were afraid of the weak/tiny rods flying everywhere, they just decided to dump crazy amounts of fuel in there with a really inefficient IC system...

but relocating the MAF will help, and will make the car fun much better, but if you don't have a management system, the car is going to run like crap no matter what you do pretty much, and if you do have an ssafc, tune it.. I still have to re-tune my a little but I really hope it completely fixes it and I don't have to keep retuning after a while and whenever the weather changes

I have no engine management and mine runs perfectly (dunno) I'm sure it would be faster with engine management but meh

An EMS wouldn't take care of what I'm experiencing. The car is almost undriveable. So much so that I drove a customers 911 home last night instead of my car.

Post some pics of your setup...maybe a video too

That way we can try to diagnose it..

I used self tappers and some straight stainless brackets.

I'm relocating the MAF today... Wish me luck that this fixes my problems... I'm trying to decide if I should install my IAT into the charge piping... My only concern is sealing it well enough so not to have boost leak... Any suggestions?

Thats not going to work. You'll be hard pressed to get that in thereand stay. The IAT makes almost 0 difference on how the ECU adds fuel, you'll waste time doing that for little or no difference.

I left my iat plugged But not installed into any of my pipes. As long as u don't unplugg it,u will be good and won't get a check engine light. Hey evil ,I sold my car brother. Kind of miss it but I guess it was meant to be lol.

Just thought of something... Put it in the charge piping totally, leaving only the wiring exposed from the outside by going in through a coupler... Hmmm....
