Taking out the SMIC to get cold air to the intake is also going to do VERY little in comparison to what putting in a FMIC has done for you. From an "every little bit helps" standpoint, sure. But from an absolute output standpoint... its marginal, if not immeasurable.
I didn't mean to the intake, I have a cai, so I get the air from the fender, which I have a little scoop dremmelled out for cold air, I just meant overall cooling the engine bay down a little helps overall, nothing noticable, but compared to something like the stock hood and the CF hood with vents in there like mine (I know the little smic hole removed isn't even close to having vents in the hood, but I'm just making a connection) then with my vents open, it is a HUGE difference in the overall engine bay temps.. letting the heat escape, or cooler air come in, doesn't make a huge difference on the dyno, but you have to think that keeping your engine bay cooler helps overall, thats all I was getting at
Has anyone tested a SRI vs. a CAI? I mean ACTUALLY tested. I can't imagine it would do THAT much. Unless you had some wondrous CAI.
and ya, the car does run much better I think when it's cooler out and especially with my Cai I would think, I had a sri in there when I first got the car, but I haven't really done any back to back testing of it, but anyways my point is that if you have a cai with a little hole cut out that acts as a scoop, so that cold air actually does come into the cai, then I think it has made a huge difference, I've had cool nights when the hot pipe is actually just warm, not even anywhere close to hot, and the cold pipe therefore is actually cold..it was crazy.
granted I spent a bunch of times popping the hood after driving it to check both pipes just because I was curious, and on cooler nights the cai definitely makes quite a bit of difference I think, more so when you have a stock hood on there.. but I will say that on warm days or hot days, the cai vs the sri really doesn't matter, because the temp difference sometimes between the air coming into the sri and the cai is very minimal, but yes, the intercooler obviously makes the main difference, but it takes energy to heat up cooler air, as well as cool it back down, so really cooler air from a cai (however minimal it is) is "sucking" heat from the turbo, even though the turbo gets hot enough where it really doesn't make anywhere close to a noticeable difference, expect on cooler nights..
so ya the thing about that little smic being there or not really is nothing, I just figured I prefer it not there based on looks and rationalizing it for myself haha
