I just meant for cutting the bumper support, only an inch or so, it doesn't actually do anything as far as support since it's such a small amount (I'm sure there is a very slightly small amount of stability loss if your going to nitpick, but really it's nothing) I just did that so that you can't see the bumper support from the grille.. I just personally didn't like the look of being able to actually see the bumper support, most people don't want to go through the hassle of doing it, but I wanted to make mine look flush and I'm glad I did it that way, I wouldn't do it any other way, and actually I might fix my brother's but his is mounted differently so might not both with it.
but ya, don't need to if your IC is small enough, just figured I would give a suggestion with my personal experience

haha, ya it's not bad, just get the kit, and actually I think I only used.. maybe a 1/4 of the straight pipes I had, but anyways just buy the kit and play around with it until you get something that fits and you like...just make sure that you know what you are doing before you start ordering couplers and stuff, I had to order couplers I think 3 different times.. kind of a pain but it worked out in the end and I couldn't have been happier.

Just take the entire kit used in the OP off my hands! I'll make you a good deal on it with BOV!
Cut a hole in the splash shield, bend back the piece on the driver's side, and replace the stock stuff with the box-o parts that I send, you... job done!

Good point. I kinda don't like the bumper support showing on my car. But then again,if I start cutting up the support,then I might as well just buy a bigger intercooler.

do I just not see the bumper support on mine because I'm still using the mesg grill cover?

^^ yes, if you have it off you will see it, I have a west wings grille mesh on there so I would be able to see it too, but either way I just like to lined up, with my car I am kind of picky with getting things just right..
but ya jdmdikk, it's only cutting the bumper support about 1-1.5", so ya you could get a slighly larger IC, but really anything bigger than that is still being blocked by the front bumper, I just wanted to make it flush so that all of it is hit by air and you couldn't see the bumper support, but ya, if you have everything already installed, I wouldn't be rushing to change it up lol

So I see nobody has tried clocking the comp housing down toward the front of the car about 60* then running between the radiator and lower rad hose to avoid the goofy 180* piping right in front?? Pretty sure this would only work with pusher fans for more room. This will be my next set-up

I thought about this. my 180 is only going to be temporary. Although it does allow smoother flowing for the air.idk if it really matters though.
I thought about trying it this way but I didn't want to damage any gaskets,parts etc while attempting to do it this way. my brother has a clocked down turbo, but the piping on the hot side is pretty small, maybe like 2" or even maybe 1.75, I'll maybe take some pics tomorrow if I remember

Got a head start on installing Friday last night by knocking out this big step. Only broke off 1 tab and found it and glued it back on lol!
and the bumper support is so easy to take off it was a no brainer to remove and work with it.

I'm thinking maybe I should cut out the bottom section of the bumper support now. That way I can use the first side I painted with the larger, centered Mazdaspeed. Thoughts?

it was pretty easy to cut the small section of the bumper support out, and you don't need to cut the whole bottom part off, just measure the gap for the grille opening and cut a tiny bit larger than that, just so it's not visible when the bumper is on.. and it really just mount up really nicely, everything is centered and flush and neat hah
I think u should. Like u said,the mazdaspeed logo will be centered that way,u will also get more air to the intercooler and u won't have the crash bar showing. I my self cant cut the crash bar since I made 2 squares on the top section but I might if I use really short screws and bolt it to the middle section .hmmm
