How To: Ebay FMIC

ok, 20mm long is like less than an inch. Thats not making its way through the whole crash bar.

If the crash bar is almost 5" top to bottom in order to drill through it and secure the FMIC to it I'd need bolts about 150mm long.

Am I missing something here?

I never removed my crash bar. It's just more unnecessary work .I bolted mines to the middle metal section that is inside the crash bar. U can mount it from the top to bottom but it's more of a pita because u will then need a long enough drill bit and long ass bolt plus aligning will be a b&tch.just cut a square small piece on the top metal .work from the bottom up. Thats what I did.

Thinking of pulling the crash bar, measuring the mounting points on the bottom. That way I'll just have to drill holes in the bottom and I'll cut out 2 squares on the back side of the crash bar to get access to put the bolts is and mount it.

That will work also. I used a marker that was bright yellow,it's a water market. I painted the mounting tabs on the intercooler with the marker and lined it up to the bottom crash bar and just pushed up and made my marks. Drilled the middle section of the marks and that's it. Worked perfect. It's one of those markers that u use to write on the car windows.

So mark the holes with the painted tabs, use a self tap screw to start your hole, then a drill bit, unibit if u have one, then switch back and forth on what works best.the crash bar is no joke to drill thru lol,u will see.I also recommend mounting the fmic atleast 1-2 inches back on the crash bar so that your bumper tabs won't hit the core. And u should get undercoat rust proof can ,since my cuts on the crash bar already look rusty and it's only been about 1wk. The side metal from the radiator is so thin that a dremel, grinder or branch hand cutter can just cut it without a issue. That parts easy.

lol ok cool thanks. I have that grill paint that I was going to spray the drill holes with just to cover it from the elements. We'll see how it all goes. Will be starting friday as long as my couplers come in.

well as long as your have your crash bar off, if you have a grinder (I just picked one up from Lowes) and just cut the bottom of the bumper about 1.5-2" so that it will line up correctly, and it also prevents the IC from pushing the bottom of the bumper down, I have all my bottom supports in on mine, and I just think it doesn't really look good when you can see the bumper support like that from the grille opening.. pretty easy to do once you have the bumper support off

so what? Cut the bottom section out of the bumper support? So basically the FMIC mounts to the "mid" section of the support? Is that wat you meant?

U dont have to cut your bumper support since your fmic is small in size to fit perfectly fine without hitting the bottom section of the bumper. Bolted back a inch or 2,yes but cut bumper support, not needed

ok, thanks...saved me a headache.

I also painted the other side of the FMIC like you said, with a slightly smaller decal and higher up on the FMIC so it shows better.

Great. Can't wait to see it. I think I might shoot the other member up with a pm and see if he can send me the same decal sticker but so that I can paint the letters in black and keep my core silver. So like the corksport one.my car is black so 2 much black will kill the look I think

yeah, you want a stencil of the Mazdaspeed. The opposite of what I got :D

I wamted the IC black regardless so just figured this added a little something :D
