How To: Automatic unlock doors when you pull the lever

however, what if the passenger wants to get out first? - just a thought. i dont want to complicate anything.
The mod will be done to the driver's door. (I don't have that many passengers, so frankly i really don't care about other doors.) However, if the mod works out ok, then there is no reason why you can't add the feature to passenger doors on your own.

sounds like a plan...Godspeed to you!(first)

i think all.
after much thought- i think only driver's door. just cause it will be annoying to hear 4 CLICKS everytime i pull the door handle...

So we need a tie breaking vote! come on peps!

I vote all just because it's nice and convenient. I would rather have it do all than have to install this on both front doors.

kanseiZM, you understand that even if it activates all locks, if your passenger has accidently locked their door and try to get out before you, it will still be locked. The "switch" here is the driver's door handle.

I realize that. As it stands right now, they have to wait for me to push the button. It's no worse for them, but better for the driver.

ok, all doors it is (is that grammatically correct? sounds weird ;) ) actually, i have decided to do it both ways for you guys, and leave mine on only the drivers door. Those who really care will be able to put in a SPDT switch to select which option they want. (but i am not adding that feature)

Personally, I think Mazda should have just relocated the lock button. My Acura and Nissan both had the lock lever by the handle. This meant the top of the door was nice and smooth for cruising with your arm out the window.

My solution to this problem? Just don't put your arm on the lock.

This actually isn't another thread about that. This is about how you have to either manually or push the button to unlock the doors to get out of the car, while many cars unlock the front doors when you just pull on the door handle (or VW where you pull once to unlock and again to open.. weird and not good design if you ask me).

MOTHER F$#% CO@& SUCK#($ SON# #$ A BIT#$# *****!!

Just spent the last two hours cutting away at the plastic on my door handle making it just perfect for the microswitch. Got the switch all bent how i want it and glued it in place with CA. Now, i continuity check the fuc@#$#$ switch and it doesn't work! I HATE RADIO SHACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by the way- i have already tested the electrical and this mod is gonna work ;) (if i can cut the stupid switch out to replace it)

my brother's volvo has it setup to unlock the doors when u pull on the handle...seems mechanical since u could actually feel it pull up on the unlock lever...ill pop off his door tomorrow to see how its installed...

no real need unless you want to, flypinoy7- i am fully confident it is mechanical. this is the way our cars should be too, but mazda was cheap...

In my mom's Tribute (Ford Escape for that matter) the door unlocks when you pull the handle but only on the front doors, i think that the entire handle is designed to do that ont he front door, i wonder if the handle is different for the front and rear doors

i think this won't help

I don't know if I'm really contributing much to this conversation, however...

In regards to having the opening of the doorhandle unlock all the doors simultaneously (I assume this also includes the hatch), I think there might be a possibly simpler way to go about it.

I'm not a big computer/electrical/wiring guru, however I am aware, as some of you may already be, that if you walk around to the front passenger door and unlock the car manually with your key, it electrically unlocks all the doors, including the hatch.

Now, it would be possible to replicate this mechanism which responds to the turning of the external front passenger keyhole and install it in each door in such a way that it therefore responded to the pulling of the interior handles and unlocked all the doors of the vehicle?

Despite how much I love my car, they really weren't thinking that much about convenience when it came to the locks...

i solved that problem by having automatic door locks tied with the ignition. that feature came about when i installed my DEI alarm. now the problem is people still try to get out beofre im ready to shut the car off.. .so they can still wait. but have no problem getting out as the doors unlock when i turn the ign off. they also lock automatically when the ign has been on for 4 sec

pretty cool, definitly a good solution! Thans for the input!

hehe... that is exactly what i am doing- electrically ;)
