How To: Automatic unlock doors when you pull the lever

Wow this is amazing...I would love to do this. Definately keeping this in mind for the future after done with school.

Anyone else seeing red x's for those pictures?
Maybe the internet at work is filtering it out, but I am not getting them.
I really want to do this but see no pics.

Interesting...I was thinking of doing something like this on my wife's Nissan Murano using relays.

So I was thinking of tapping into the e-brake switch (you know, the brake warning light on the dash when your e-brake is engaged), when you disengage the e-brake the doors lock, and unlock when you step on the e-brake...Or maybe a switch on the shifter to do the same thing...Always worried about car jackings and her car doesn't automatically lock when you start the car.

Holy crap that's an awesome idea for it. You could definitely do it using the signal from the ebrake switch using the how-to in this thread.

I haven't gotten a chance to actually read through the how-to, but the only thing that I think might be an issue is that the signal coming from the e-brake switch is sorta reversed, as the light comes on when the switch is open. I'm going to do some thinking and maybe draw up a diagram. I want to do this today

oh and I think I'd set it up so that the whole thing was only active when the ACC wire has power.

Yes, that's a problem, but there's different relays that you can use to make it happen...Don't remember which ones, but just look at the diagrams on the relays. I would think you want a relay to turn on when the relay is disengaged...I might have one lying around in my garage I think.

You don't want to use relays to lock the doors. You need to send a pulse to the microcontroller to enable, disable the lock. That is why using a micro switch works here. You will want to find a circuit that can produce one pulse even when the source doesn't change state. Your best bet is to find a source that is pulsed when the car is on, or turned on- hint hint. You could think about taping into the "start" signal. That would look the doors, at least. Then... you could use this mod to unlock when you get out. Or... you could find another pulsed source to send an unlock signal when the car is shut off. Practically speaking, you wouldn't want the car to unlock until you were ready to get out, though. So this mod may be the best to unlock the door. Good luck with what you are doing!

by the way- the relay that was refered to above is called a spdt relay. one contact will be engaged when the relay is not on, and the other set will be engaged when it is on.

just curious but will this mod make your power locks wear out quicker also if the problem is your arm hitting the lock button why not just take it out and shorten it so that it sits flush with the door when unlocked. i think there is a how to on this but not sure. please let me know what you think

just started this mod yesterday unfortunaly i found out i cant find my hot glue gun
