Wait.. Easier then a oil change? lol

:D I spoke too soon. Of course it could not go this smoothly... the gasket off of the old header decided to decompose. No stores seem to have this part in stock either, yay! ...

I was wondering about that gasket myself.

My advice would be buy a new one beforehand :) It is special order most places that are open, I hope the dealer has it in-stock tomorrow.

well everything went smooth with the install today....except for the cat gasket....and well its stuck onto the stock cat....i tried prying it off but it seems melted on. anyone know where i can get one besides dealer? autozone maybe?

lol, sounds like you are in the same boat as I am. I called a bunch of the local parts stores, and if they did think they could get it, it was a special order part. :(

It's a lead gasket IIRC. So it WILL come off. Get as large a flathead as you can or a putty knife and gently pry it up. Your goal is to slide it off the pipe, as prying it outward will shatter it.

well the thing is we were prying it off...BUT its so stuck on that its tearing a bit....we couldnt get a scredrive in from below so we tried from uptop and it was comming off but it was expanding so i doubt wed be able to use it again....damn northeaster winters lol....but well see what tomorrow brings!

that gasket was a PITA, but keep trying, it should come off

I think mine is beyond repair, heh.

Pro5, that link doesn't work correctly for me. What is the part number?

ok well i found the part on that site but also on napa and at napa its cheaper. its not the exact part from mazda but i punched in the parts number and its like 6.49

http://www.napaonline.com/cgi-bin/n...ail.d2w/report?prrfnbr=28505110&prmenbr=5806#

that is the napa part but the part number is BP4840581A good luck. tomorrow ill be going to napa and getting the part bright and early! and since ill have many a daylight ill be installing my mam mid pipe as well and hood prop kit most likely. with luck awr motor mount. i will be resetting the ecu as well as stated. but ive been told that it takes the car a full tank of gas to relearn the maps. so the first tank of gas will be crap mpg, or so i am told. i hope this helps, ill write a review tomorrow after everything is said and done.

Thanks pro5maniac, I'll be heading to Napa too :D Are you doing the front or rear mount? I have a rear mount and it looks like it should be tricky, so I'll be interested in results.

Laser03pro, it is just a metal-ish gasket, right? Mine seemed to be fine. The OBX also came with a gasket too.

What about the mani gasket at the head did your old one do ok.

i got a new mani gasket with my obx header. it came in the package. i threw out the old one cause i dont need but it held up well. no issues cause when i took off stock mani it stayed on the car and was in perfect condition except visual wear and tear. the difference i found is that that obx gasket is softer then stock one. but it could be that the stock one is worn down. honestly i am surprised that the stock gasket from the stock cat would not come off. i am surprised because i got the car in may of 2003 and well it only has like 25,600 miles on it, give or take a few. i hope this helps as well.

ok ladies and gents ive been to napa and back and i got the part i require. basically instead of the stock piece which is more of a tapeish metal piece the napa part is a full out metal piece. ill take pics of it prior to install to post onto hear. i had the plastic bag over it and started to put it on a bit, to see if it would fit, and it will but you need some force so probably have a maletter hany to put it in evenly! i didnt want to fully put it on or try yet, as i wait for my friend to come over, becausse i want to take a picture of the piece and the piece on my stock cat so people can know what kind of predicament i was in. just posting this for now a full review will be had later today!

wd-40 that sucker. let it set for an hour... attack it again.

ok update

got header on...egr valve not 100% there...i have small egr valve leak. i started her up to confirm this to see about tightness...i am going to retighten all bolts and see about tightening the egr valve some more! so if that works but as of right now the car is sitting cooling off!

you have to work the egr fitting a little to get it to line up....i found it easier if you undid the bracket holding the egr tube.

the bracket is located on the side of the block and requires a 10 mm socket.

hope that helps
