How To: 2.0 Header Installation

you have to work the egr fitting a little to get it to line up....i found it easier if you undid the bracket holding the egr tube.

the bracket is located on the side of the block and requires a 10 mm socket.

hope that helps

yeap i know this i figured out what i had to do....and i still have clearance issue donig this so i shall be taking header off today just for the egr valve...ill reinstall it as well wish me luck YET AGAIN!

Ever since I put on the header the exhaust moves around so much it causes a LOUD rattle. The exhaust is hitting against the heat shield. I've installed kartboy exhaust hangers and bent up the heat shield and still a LOUD rattle. Any suggestions on how to stop this? I was just gonna take it to a muffler shop and have them work on it but, I would rather save myself some money and do it myself. I am pretty mechanically inclined but I cant figure this damn thing out. I think I might have to weld something up.

Part of it is probably the lack of that bracket that bolted the old mani to the tranny maybe if some1 welded a peice to the header so you could bolt it up in that spot again it would help.

Yeah I was trying that. That would mean I would have to weld a custom bracket to my header. I might have to do that when I get home. Thanks

your old one that went to the block will work -- just bolt it to the block so you can see where you need to tack weld it --- it wont take much to hold it ---

just my 2 cents (drinks)

John, with my setup, we actually took out the bolts on the sheet metal, and drilled two new holes in the heatshield farther out. This allowed the shield to be pushed higher up.

From under the car, push/pull up and down, and left and right on the piping just after the heatshield. If it makes the noise while you're doing this, it could also be the magnaflow's setup. You may need to loosen a clamp and shift the piping a little. I noticed I had to do that with mine when I installed it.

wow no one had trouble with the 2 spring loaded screws that held the mid pipe and header togather???
i only got one off so i had to cut through that biotch and now its held togather by only 1 screw which mite be bad in the long run...
on the other hand my gasket came off in 2 minutes, just got a chisel and it was cake

only problem i had with the springs was they would not go back on after install because the distance from the header flang was farther then stock --- so inorder for the bolt to reach the mid pipe -- i had to shorten the spring just enough to allow me to tighten it all down :)

just finished installin my OBX and i must say i love, especially coupled with MAzdaspeed axleback, just waiting for my MAM midpipe. as everyone said, those damn spring bolts are a PITA. thank god for Home Depot, completely swapped my studs, washers, bolts after chopping em off. so far a nice even bronzing is occuring. tahnx to everyone for all your feedback and persoanl experience...helped make this less of a nightmare

You can tolerate that racket? I dealt with the Mazdaspeed axleback + header for about a month before I broke down and got the racing beat catback. It sounds great and not too loud now.

Oh and damn you and your even bronzing. I need to polish mine up.

I can tolerate that "racket"

it sounds pretty damn good IMO

no adverse effects are had from running your car with the second o2 messed up

Please explain. I just installed my Ractive header, only to find out that the bung was welded too close to the oil pan to use the Subie fix OR re-install the o2 sensor. I've got a brass plug in the bung, and the sensor zip-tied to my radiator support. Does the CEL only come on if the ECU is detecting TOO MUCH emissions, as opposed to none? Or should I do the MIL/CEL fix just to be safe?

Thanks

Sid

wow 4 months later... i got the OBX too and am about to install it, i heard that if I get a spark plug non fouler and attach it between obx and o2 sensor that it will take the senor out of the exhaust flow and not throw the CEL.. opinions?

7 months ... not one problem.

Wow ... shouda resized that (boom07) Remember to drill out the one that the O2 sensor screws into with a 1/2" bit.

did you use two of them?

Yes. They come two to a pack as well. Drill out one of them from the top with a 1/2" bit (be careful of the threads) and screw this one into (on top of) the other. Screw the assembly into the header and then screw in the O2 sensor.
