dont forget to put on some white lithium grease on the rubber "gasket" of the filter... its makes taking it off 1000000 times easier. also, you can buy WIX or NAPA Gold filters in just about any city in the country... NAPA Gold is a WIX filter btw.
it hasn't for me several times... it still got "stuck" until I started using lithium.... now it just easily turns off by hand (but dont get me wrong its on there pretty damned tight)
on my old 1991 protege the filter was the same as on my p5 now and i was using a '91 929 oil filter amd it worked great and was about twice as long as the current one. im gonna do my first oil change by myself in about a month and im planning on getting the same 929 oil filter. i think it costs the same and is bigger and its oem so ill be very happy. with synthetic oil you can generally run your car 3 times longer than with regular oil and the bigger filter will help. im still under warranty so i do my oil changes every 5000 miles which is the minimum what mazda recommends with regular oil so its kinda a waste for synthetics but im not a cheapass so i dont mind doing it that often. i dont race and take care of my car so my engine will be like new practicly forever. i used synthetic on my old car for like 4 years then i changed my valvecover gasket and the damn engine was spotless with no buildup or anything and i used to dog that car alot and it had 250000 miles on it when i sold it. anyway im way off topic so ill shut up now.
Peace!
