How much did you pay for your Mazda2?

Just finished signing paperwork on a white touring MT. $15,400 otd with 0% for 60 months. I feel like I overpaid after looking at some of the deals others have gotten in this thread. Still, 0% is sweet!

YOU feel like you overpaid? lol. I paid $17,045.00 for a Silver Touring AT with a cargo net and wheel locks, also paid the destination charge thinking there was no way around it, also thinking since the sticker was only about $200.00 more than invoice was a good deal. Blegh, I def. feel like I got screwed, lol. Oh well, I still love my 2. Honestly, I'm just waiting for a Mazdaspeed2 to come out, then it's trade in time if the price is right :)

There is something strange about the marketing of this car which is it basically has no marketing in the USA. I was reading & researching & test driving all of the sub-compacts I could think of & I never even considered the Mazda2; didn't even know it existed. Even when I happened to see one at the grocery store, I still didn't consider it.

Then when you go read it's specs on the internet it really doesn't sound good. I really don't remember what I even read that finally made me want one. I must have read a review somewhere that I liked.

Then there is the strange dealer pricing. Most dealers have them listed at MSRP, but then when I found one offering a deal & e-mailed the others to match they all had no problem dropping the price even further than what already seemed like a good deal.

It almost seems like Mazda either wanted just a sample of the cars in the US to see what happens, so they gave the dealers a huge discount, or they were just trying to get rid of excess inventory & weren't really interested in selling very many in the US, so again they gave the dealers a huge discount.

Whatever it is I'm glad I got one so far. It's a fun car, I avg 35 mpg so far, and hopefully it proves to be very reliable.

Ya know, I think you're very right about everything you said. The only reason I got my Mazda2 was because I loosely knew about it over the internet and just so happened to sit in one while I was getting my oil changed in my old Mazda3. I'm a Mazda fanatic so of course I wanted to stay with the same brand as well. As far as Dealer discounts are concerned, I know I heard something about how the US was only supposed to get a very small batch of Mazda2's so your comment certainly fits.

I don't get it either. The dealers are getting their money somehow, so Mazda must be doing something behind the scenes for them.

The $13,500 I paid was the total price & it was advertised on the internet. They had 2 in stock; the other one is still there for $13,799 now. So my contract was $13,500 for the car, $272 for license/registration, $100 Processing/Electronic Filing Fee. That's it. (this is all disregarding my trade-in & down payment)

I sent that offer to 3 or 4 other dealers. One said print off the internet page & they'd beat the price; the other said I could have a silver one for $13,000; the other one said they'd sell me one for $14,000 with 0%. I forgot to mention the $13,500 where I got mine does not include the 0% interest offer. So I have a 3 year loan at 2.99% which I'm going to pay off early anyway (like in 2 weeks), but if I didn't that would be about $600 in interest, so it's not as good of a bargain then.

But the other 2 dealers just said they'd beat the deal & never mentioned interest rates in their e-mails. I had already bought this car before I saw their offers, so I'll never know. I was happy with my trade-in, so it probably worked out just as good for me anyways.

Hey Mac, if you don't mind my asking, which dealers were giving you the $13,000 price? I'm over in Central Oregon and our local dealers are generally a joke (bought my wife's Subaru over in Salem for way less than they wanted on this side of the mountain).

Thinking about picking up a Mazda2 Sport MT as a second car rather than dropping $12k on something used with 100k on the odo. If you have any recommendations for dealers elsewhere in the state I'm all ears.

Spivey

Picked upd Spivey (Black 2 5MT Touring) for 16,616 OTD with them paying off the '07 Nissan Frontier Crew Cab 2WD. Payments are 251.72 for 72 months. Gas just cost me $30.20 to fill up! Loving it! I wish I had time to get into tuning it but it looks like I will ahve to wait a few years on that. The dealership I went to had a few choices but color wise it was limited to white, black and grey. Somebody said they had a green on the lot but I never saw it. I don't see a lot of these on the road yet here in middle Georgia. They also don't have anything more than the Touring and Sport models for sale in the states that I know of. It doesn't come with a lot but it drives great!

After reading a little about how dealers are able to sell below invoice my guess is that Mazda is giving dealers a good incentive (maybe $2,000). So basically it's the same concept as giving the customer a $2,000 rebate, but the dealer gets it instead, behind-the-scenes. That way a dealer could sell a $15,000 MSRP vehicle for $13,000 & still make a good profit.

That's just a guess, but it makes sense.

Mazda's dealer holdback is really low, compared to almost everyone else. It's possible Mazda offers a volume incentive on a dealer to dealer basis, to make up for the low holdback. The mark-up on the 2's seems to be only about $180, and the hold back would be about $140. So, if they sell the car at MSRP, the dealer would be making around $300. If they can dump a couple 2's and 3's below invoice, and lose maybe $2000 total, but get back $5000+ in volume incentives, it would make a lot of sense.

Were most of these really good deals near the end of the month? and the not so good deals more toward the beginning/middle?

Just a thought. I could be way off.

There was neither a budge on price, nor an offer for 0% interest when I bought mine... and it was indeed the beginning of November.

Mine was at the very end of the month, and they mentioned to me more than once how they really wanted to get the deal done before the month ended to boost their numbers for the month.

But there are other dealers in town you could contact now or next month or whenever & they'll offer an even better deal than what I got, so I'm not sure.

Congrats !
I think that's a good deal; I'm not sure anymore.
Since MSRP seems to be meaningless on these cars right now I'll go with:
$13,000 to $13,500 good deal.
$12,500 to $13,000 really good deal.
$12,000 to $12,500 great deal.
If anyone gets below $12,000 I'm going to be even more jealous, so if you do just keep it a secret. :)

Looks like I found the right discussion.

I am also in Oregon and I've been unable to find any significant deal on a Mazda2 yet. I had a long talk with the sales manager at the Eugene dealer, but they were unwilling to go less than MSRP, even after I made it clear I was not going to buy one at MSRP.

MacAttack7, would you mind letting me know which dealers are giving you sub-MSRP prices? Did you get the 0% financing on that $13,500 price? I might buy one this weekend for that kind of deal, but I'm just not willing to pay MSRP for this car.

I'm actually heading to Portland tomorrow to visit some of the Mazda dealers up there. I would appreciate any other info you could provide!!

I think if you take MSRP & subtract about $1200 that would be the max to pay if paying cash.
If you take MSRP & subtract about $700 that would be the max to pay if financing with the 0% offer.

Those are guesstimates, but I think that should be close.

well after a long search of a white touring manual finally found one, and im off to the dealer soon. so far they priced it at 16710 with 500 cash back and 500 off. u think i can push this for 15800? this is going to be financed with 2000 down

Well its a no go. they didnt wanna budge with the price i wanted. they were sticking with 16210, its making me really thing i should just go for a sport white manual, i just wanted the touring due to its cruise control capability and red stiching. what do u guys think?

My first post. Just came home with a Mazda 2 Touring Blue, Manual.

I'm also in the Bay Area and the prices are usually higher here. He did give me the low down on the kick back which he said had more to do with total of cars sold for larger discounts. He wasn't willing to loose money because business was good and the Mazda 2 has been selling well around here.

Other dealers might be will to let a car go cheaper to get back the difference on higher priced cars/suv's

Anyway my best quote from about 15 dealers was $$16,222.00 "invoice", plus tax and title. Bought it in San Francisco.

shortfuse12 as the White paint costs more I'd say that wasn't a bad price. Was that Dublin Mazda??

MazdaUSA lists a 2011 Mazda2 Touring manual at $15,635.00. If you add on $200.00 for the paint charge, you're looking at $15,835.00. Also, The $795.00 destination charge will put you at $16,630.00 so the Dealer you went to seems to be charging a bit much for the car you're looking for. If they take $500.00 off and $500.00 cash back, you should be down to $15,630.00. Honestly, Mazda dealers charge far too much for dealer fees (mine charges $600.00) and the destination charge for these cars is quite ridiculous in my honest opinion but that's a whole different story. Any who, I hope you get the Mazda2 you're looking for at a good price :)
