How many Brits? Fancy a cuppa?

Regarding water leaks I got rid of my Seat Leon (Mark 1) after 2 years having bought from new. I suffered from drenched carpets after six months of ownership and in the middle of winter unfortunately. After 6 visits to the dealer they finally fixed it. All door seals replaced - still leaked. Resealed pollen filter housing - leaked even more with a steady stream of water coming from behind the dash glovebox area on to the floor. (Bear in mind the CD autochanger was in the glovebox) I had a container placed there which I emptied after every journey and had to drive around with the windows down and the heater on full blast to stop misting up in the middle of winter.

Eventually the dealer found that there was a gap between an air con pipe and the seal where it went through the bulkhead so the water was running down the pipe and into the car when it rained. They took up the carpets and dried everything out with a heater. Roll forwards another year and one day when driving along ALL the warning lights lit up on the dash along with multiple warning beeps and the speedo and rev counter went haywire . Back to the dealer again and they diagnosed a corroded connector behind the dash. I wonder how that happened?(whistle). The error code print out from the on board computer had generated 5 pages of A4 paper. They replaced the wiring loom and all appeared ok until a few months later the airbag warning light came on. I'd had enough and didn't trust it anymore so traded it in for a Mazda 6 (Therein lies yet another tale of woe if anyone is interested)

I can understand why someone would want to get rid of their car after suffering leaks.

Thank you - I rest my case.

Hmmm. I can understand where you are coming from and if you are that unhappy then getting rid will be the only solution.

However water doesn't have to be fatal. Some years back my daughter drove her 04 reg Vauxhall Corsa into a flooded ford, nose down under water, water inside the car in the footwells over the pedals etc. When recovered the car was tipped backwards coming off the recovery truck and a substantial quantity of water flowed out of the exhaust. I tried the engine and it spluttered into life and I managed to drive it around very haltingly. I had a friendly mechanic collect it, he dried it out, changed the oil, had the car valeted and the total cost was less than 400.

The car was still running like a sewing machine and with no rust when we sold it 3 years later......

As an aside just got back from moving my daughter between flats in SW London. The TomTom worked flawlessly, live traffic predicted with great accuracy where the slow traffic was and took me away from a severe jam at Putney Bridge and over Hammersmith Bridge, the iStop kicked in and out faultlessly (once the engine was warmed up) and the amount of stuff I could get in the back of the car with the seats down beggared belief.

A real shame you should have such problems but Friday afternoon cars do still exist, a friend gave up with his Merc a few years back after it suffered its 43rd fault in 18 months....

I'm in Somerset, and I think there might have been something on the news re excess water on the fields round these parts. I've visited a few affected areas and taken loads of photos, and (Applauso won't like me for this) no ingress of water at all. Plus the car is kept outdoors in what has been relentless rain.

Back in 1990 the town I lived in by the sea had a storm surge and a load of cars in a carpark opposite the quayside were flooded with salt water up to the door windows with salt water, consequently were insurance write offs. I bought one (1984 Honda badged Triumph Acclaim) for a good price from a local repairer who removed carpets and door cards etc & dried it out in a warm environment. Everything worked perfectly for the two years I kept it, no condensation or steaming up. The point is though I got it cheap and both my daughters learned to drive in it. Was a good little car.

However I can understand Applauso.

He bought a premier car no doubt as new and there is the nagging doubt as to long term effects and it should not have happened.

Sad to see him go as he has been the initiator of the whole "How many Brits fancy a cuppa"? thread.

I'm Not gone yet. I'm also glad that you don't have any leaks, I wouldn't wish that on anybody and I hope you have many happy times in your CX-5. They are indeed lovely cars. I just got unlucky. Test driving the Qashqai tomorrow.

I'm swapping The Mazda 2 courtesy car for a 3 soon. Yippee!

I can relate to your lack of confidence in your current CX5, having had a very expensive relationship with the Merc Dealer when my S class was flooded through a blocked drain in the scuttle & subsequently traded out for a VW Up after numerous electrical gremlins following the ingress of water into the Puters and Wiring loom.

Before you ditch the Mazda brand you could try what I did when faced with a problematical Audi A4 which was repaired at considerable expense foc, after owning for 8-9 months. I politely wrote rejecting the car which Audi subsequently bought back at a fair price, and then gave me the option of purchasing again at a whopping discount. If you don't ask........ etc. Good luck with whatever you decide to get next. PP

My dealer has offered me 20,000. What do you think?

You don't state what the mileage is but looking at Parkers.co.uk, who I have usually found to be quite accurate, for your model on a 2012/12 plate (I am assuming that from when you joined the forum) they quote 19240 as a part-ex price so 20K when you are not going to buy another car seems fair value on the face of it and with limited information.

I am sure there will be others who will suggest you should get more and maybe a bit of haggling might improve the offer but cash in hand will allow you to negotiate a decent discount off whatever you buy with the possible exception of the new Qashqai for which you have expressed a preference.

The other route, if you can afford to wait depending upon lead times, is to buy via a broker. I purchased my Jaguar XF through Carfile.net and managed a 13% discount against a best offer of 9% from a dealer. I also rated Carfile very highly, absolutely painless and ALL monies paid direct to the supplying dealer.

OK. So I now definitely have a 19" Toyo Proxes R36 Tyre never used for sale 130 and a spare wheel kit with all foam inserts never used, Cost new 350. Will take 250. This is an actual photo of it installed in my car. Genuine Mazda part and does not change the boot space or floor level at all.
Collection only due to the size. Will consider meeting you halfway if it's too far. PM me if you are interested. Failing that there is always Ebay but I'd like them to go to one of you guys.

On Autotrader there are several similar cars to yours with low mileage but they are ALL 13 plate. They are on offer from 23-25.5K (higher values exist for the 175 AWD model). By the time you subtract a bit for haggling and then another chunk for the dealer margin you are probably back down towards the 20-21K mark. Probably worth pushing a bit but I'm not sure you would get much more since the dealer is effectively buying the car off you and it is 12 plate. That's just my personal opinion though......and I don't work in the trade.

Sorry but that's a Dunlop space saver.

A full sized 19" wheel like I have requires the boot raising 40mm.
Are you saying a spare Toyo tyre is also available.

To confirm. It is a space saver tyre. Sorry if I wasn't clear on that.

And also to confirm a Brand new Supplied by a Mazda Dealer Toyo tyre is available 19 " Proxes R36 as fitted as standard on new CX 5 Sport (Not shown in Pic)

So to clarify:

19" Toyo Proxes R36 Tyre Brand new 130

Space saver tyre and foam surrounds 250

Sorry for any confusion.

Well at 7K miles it's hardly doing you any favours. But rule of thumb says you lose the VAT on a car the day you drive it off the forecourt. Was the offer in the context of "I want out how, much will you give me for the car?" or did you discuss another purchase from them. Personally I would ask to meet with the dealer principle rather than Johhny shiny suit salesman, and put your case for recompense in a calm, polite but firm and logical way. That way you can either get a better out price or structure a better deal with Mazda. Consider approaching Mazda Head Office themselves as they can sometimes intervene with additional dealer support to resolve issues like this esp when you look at repurchasing, try writing to the likes of write to Auto Express/ What Car, it's amazing what a little negative publicity does to focus Both the Dealer and Mazda's attention!

I'm up for your full size spare tyre, Pm me please with where your located.

Regards, PP

Nice Pic, Have you specced any options, Like the faucet, or Dash rattle?(gah)

Cheers for the Toyo though, was nice to chat on Monday!

I've gone for the 1.6dci Tekna (Top of the range - It can even park itself! and has so much Tech its untrue!) Nissan don't currently offer the optional Foot spa as do Mazda but I don't think I will miss it! Hoping for no rattles! It was nice to meet a fellow member.

Lets us know what you think of the cashcow when you get it, I'll be looking at the Xtrail when its released.

What price did you manage to get it at ?
Anything near the Autoebid pricing of 22.2k ?
http://www.autoebid.com/buy-new-cars/NISSAN/QASHQAI/1.6-dCi-Tekna-5d/63045.asp

I like the CX-5 alot but might be tempted to test-drive the Nissan, if the pricing is right.

I decided not to go with buying through an online broker. I have done in the past with no problems but I went with a Nissan dealer in the end.
Gives me a bit more reassurance. Yes I could have got it cheaper with a broker but there are potential pitfalls. Trying to get a discount on the new Qashqai is near impossible but without revealing my tactics I did knock a hefty chunk off the asking price.
