How many Brits? Fancy a cuppa?

Fair enough and as you said, peace of mind is the key.

We all have our different tactics, on the CX-5 I used the online brokers price and emailed every single Mazda dealer in the country, stating what my requirements were, incl not waiting for 3/4 months for the order and my target price.
Within 48 hours I had 5 offers and the different dealers fighting for my business, 24 hours after that the car was on my drive, Sept 3rd on a 63 plate.

Keep us in the loop on the Nissan, as I said I could be tempted to test-drive but would have to be x100 compared to the old Qashqai, rolled all over the place way to much for me.

Drive the deal put you in touch with a dealer, there is no risk or problems as all monies go to the dealer, the only problem is the dealer could be a 100 miles away.

Its usually difficult getting a discount of a new Nissan, especially if its in demand.
But I did get 2000 discount on a new to the market Primera, but that was some years ago, give it a year or so and discounts come.

Its actually a very good time now to buy a CX-5, discounts are a lot higher, and the model has been updated recently.

Oh I love how people think to travel more than a few miles to get something is a chore. try living up here in the Twighlight Zone, commonly known as the Highlands. I travelled about 160 miles for my Mazda CX5, but I travelled over 200 miles to get my BMW motorbike.
But our biggest gripe living here is the courier costs, it's a joke the way we get charged extra to have something delivered up here, but to send an item to anywhere in the UK is the same cost regardless.
Roll on independence day.

I travelled over 200 miles (one way) to save 1100 on a 16k car. the car before my CX-5 in fact.

I prepared well for the train journey. took a flask of luxurious milky coffee (no buffet car), chocolate, croissants and a book.

after a while. a bunch of football supporters got on. I hadn't realised that football fans were travelling on the train to a match on that day.

At one stop (I try to blot it from my mind) a large lady sat next to me and overflowed onto my seat and me. I was wedged in. I couldn't reach my coffee or snacks. At a later stop the transport police had been called due to the behaviour of the fans on the train. After the police had removed some, the train continued only for the behaviour to get worse. At least the large lady got off the train sometime after this incident. As the situation had deteriorated substantially since the transport police intervention I felt no longer safe to enjoy my coffee etc. Reading a book would have been seen as asking for a beating. ' The carriage stank of cigarettes and cheap lager.( Despite both not being allowed in the carriage). My misfortune was that I left the train only the stop before the fans were due to get off.

Oh boy, I really enjoyed the drive home in my new car. Awesome. and when it came to stopping at the services I had a perfectly good uneaten snack to hand!

The moral of my story is don't be afraid to travel for a discount. just make sure don't book a ticket on the train to hell! TIP: check football matches and kick-off times to avoid such an experience.

Yes, I could have driven up in my old car and p/exd it but It was a bit too far for me driving over 7 hours in a day and had 400 more offered to sell my car separately. I fancied a day out and thought what the hell....

The idea was a relaxing trip up and a fun drive back. At least the drive back was fun :) I took A roads to make sure the engine was not kept at a constant rpm, as per the 'running-in instructions.'

I laugh at that journey now but it wasn't so funny at the time!

The dealer will deliver the car for a small fee if required. (boobs2)

I did this also, but my local dealer smashed the best broker price by some margin and was the cheapest by far. I've no idea how their price was so good but it was and I ordered my car through them.

My previous car, a Jaguar XF was purchased through a broker but supplied by the main dealer in Derby some 180 miles away. The train journey up there and the taxi to the dealer cost a grand total of 37.50.

I saved 5950 off list price of which in excess of 2500 was better than any local SW dealer could offer.

My current CX5 was purchased from 45 miles away where I received an offer that bettered anything else by 950. I have a Mazda dealer only 6 miles away, and there were another two additional Mazda dealers between me and the supplying dealer.

I do however get the cars serviced by the local dealer who is only too happy to have my business.

It certainly can pay to travel.

Weirdly my 2nd closest local dealer had the car / spec in stock that I required and bar 50 or so matched the further afield.
Plus they were excellent people to deal with, couldn't have worked better, luck works weirdly sometimes.

On another point and relating to the new version of the car that has come out since my delivery on Sept 2013.
The new seats would solve a small issue (& only real issue) that I have on my car i.e. memory and power for the passenger.

A long shot but could you get two new seats fitted or would the cost be way too prohibitive ?

Just wondering out loud .....

It would be expensive with no resale return.

The seat contains airbags, so any work on the seat would probably require the airbags resetting through the dealer.
My Xtrail had a seat swab replaced, and that's what the dealer told me, I know the ECU was reprogrammed as the car did things afterwards that were not available before.

Hi,

Getting back to the Mazda CX-5.

I've recently been having problems with the 'Messaging' service. Originally I would get an on screen notification that I had a message, inviting me to select 'download message' which after a minute or so I could then select from the top of the list of messages and read it; worked fine. But in the last week or so, whilst still being able to download the message I now can't get the message to display on the screen. Anyone had anything similar, workrounds, ?

No ours works ok but after the down load there is a noticeable pause before the list is available.

Has anyone noticed the satnav update itself via the phone? Perhaps I just didn't notice it previously but when I used it today, the speed cameras were working (switched on) and I know for a fact that they weren't previously set to 'on'. I got an Android phone last week to replace my Blackberry Z10 and wondered if it brought functionality not previously handled by the BB.

I have experienced a different issue on the same topic:
I used to be able to download messages to the console from my galaxy S4, but recently its stopped working.

The 'new message, download/later' pop-up appears on the console, and I select to download message, then it pauses and while, then pops up a message saying 'Download failed. Try again later'.
I has never worked since the first time it failed.

As the car hasn't been into the garage, this must be a phone thing I reckon. An android update or something security related maybe?
I've killed the bluetooth connection and purged any data from the car, re-set this up, and still no messages.

Phonecalls and music still work fine though. (dunno)

Have you checked you phone settings to allow the function, don't ask where it is as I don't remember, but I've ticked a couple of boxes on my HTC.

Does anyone in Blighty know anything about this?

As found on a different forum, and must refer to the UK as there is an 0800 phone number.

Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Special Service Program on selected Mazda vehicles equipped with TomTom navigation. As a preventative measure, we would like to update the software program within the TomTom module. Our records show that you are the owner of one of the affected vehicles (Rego No).

Nature of Concern

Mazda are taking a proactive approach to address some minor operating issues with the TomTom navigation system. Even if you have not experienced any issues, Mazda would like to conduct a system upgrade to ensure it operates correctly.

Action Required

We ask that you contact your local Mazda Dealer, (see list of contacts on the back of this letter) as soon as possible to arrange an appointment to have the required remedial work completed. Your Mazda dealer will upgrade the TomTom Navigation software to the latest level. All work required will be performed free of charge to yourself.

As the required time to conduct this SSP is relatively short, your Mazda Dealer will ensure the work is done while you wait to minimise any inconvenience. However we would value your patience and understanding as dealers will need to plan their work-loads accordingly to process the affected vehicles.

If you no longer own this vehicle or have any questions relating to this work, could you please let us know by calling our toll free number 0800 800 626.

At Mazda, we are committed to safety, durability and performance of your vehicle and thank you for your co-operation in this matter. We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused by this system upgrade.

Yours Sincerely

John Van der Velden
