Oh I love how people think to travel more than a few miles to get something is a chore. try living up here in the Twighlight Zone, commonly known as the Highlands. I travelled about 160 miles for my Mazda CX5, but I travelled over 200 miles to get my BMW motorbike.
But our biggest gripe living here is the courier costs, it's a joke the way we get charged extra to have something delivered up here, but to send an item to anywhere in the UK is the same cost regardless.
Roll on independence day.
I travelled over 200 miles (one way) to save 1100 on a 16k car. the car before my CX-5 in fact.
I prepared well for the train journey. took a flask of luxurious milky coffee (no buffet car), chocolate, croissants and a book.
after a while. a bunch of football supporters got on. I hadn't realised that football fans were travelling on the train to a match on that day.
At one stop (I try to blot it from my mind) a large lady sat next to me and overflowed onto my seat and me. I was wedged in. I couldn't reach my coffee or snacks. At a later stop the transport police had been called due to the behaviour of the fans on the train. After the police had removed some, the train continued only for the behaviour to get worse. At least the large lady got off the train sometime after this incident. As the situation had deteriorated substantially since the transport police intervention I felt no longer safe to enjoy my coffee etc. Reading a book would have been seen as asking for a beating. ' The carriage stank of cigarettes and cheap lager.( Despite both not being allowed in the carriage). My misfortune was that I left the train only the stop before the fans were due to get off.
Oh boy, I really enjoyed the drive home in my new car. Awesome. and when it came to stopping at the services I had a perfectly good uneaten snack to hand!
The moral of my story is don't be afraid to travel for a discount. just make sure don't book a ticket on the train to hell! TIP: check football matches and kick-off times to avoid such an experience.
Yes, I could have driven up in my old car and p/exd it but It was a bit too far for me driving over 7 hours in a day and had 400 more offered to sell my car separately. I fancied a day out and thought what the hell....
The idea was a relaxing trip up and a fun drive back. At least the drive back was fun

I took A roads to make sure the engine was not kept at a constant rpm, as per the 'running-in instructions.'
I laugh at that journey now but it wasn't so funny at the time!
