How many Brits? Fancy a cuppa?

On the subject of insurance.

I use the AA as a broker, have done for years, and this year they wanted 447.01 with full NCD, one named driver (spouse) Miles less than 13k per year, all with LVE (Liverpool Victoria)

So, stuff that, went on line with my bank, filled in the same criteria as I use with the AA; 197.01 and guess what, LVE insurance??? How does that work???

One simple operation & 250 saved. Bizarre or what!

Alex

Not really that bizarre. All just part of the con trade that is known as the insurance industry whereby most companies pitch low to get your business and then push up the premiums in the second and subsequent years, I have had it happen so many times now that nothing surprises me any more. I read a while back that when you get quotes from Comparethemeerkat and Gocompare you can get different quotes for the same company simply based upon how much commission they each choose to take.

I have tended to go with Saga in recent years, not always, because they offer a price guarantee that they will match any like for like quote which they generally have done. Right now however I'm with RAC at 197 fully comp, the MX5 is with Saga just now at 167.

I learned my lesson a while ago when I had my house insurance with RSA for about 8 years based upon the fact they offered a 30% discount through my then employers. We were assured it would be unbeatable. I retired a couple of years back and lost that "perk" at which time, having to shop around, I found I could save 150 overnight.

It's all a big game, you just have to invest a bit of time each year to seek out the best deals. However cheapest is not always best so I try and stick with insurance companies with a 5* Defacto rating

Hastings direct is 5* Defacto as is Rias, all I do now with any insurance is use the three main comparison sites, usually all my data is stored with them.
I've used Hastings before although I haven't claimed with them.

Hi,
Strange thing happened yesterday. We had a short, sharp thunderstorm lasting about 5 minutes with the lightning no nearer than a couple of miles away. There was quite intense rain and gusty winds, but no stronger than we've had (in Gloucestershire) during the last month - anyway, the car alarm went off. As it was parked in the drive, no problem, just cancelled it with the remote. But odd and I wonder what was the cause. Anyone had anything similar?

Mine did exactly the same on Saturday. It was quite a powerful squall but it set off the alarm.

Colpart, How's your dash? I know you posted earlier it seems to be back to how it was originally but was wondering if after a few days of driving if it had got better or worse? Mines still in the dealers regarding the leak, Hoping to have it back asap. The toy car I got as a courtesy car as my lad calls it is a tad small. I'm also having to pay for my fuel which is a bummer as I usually use my company fuel card!

It has improved a bit - no rattles for the first mile or so then big rattles for the next 10 miles then no rattles :( Not sure whether to just put up with it or try again.

It's not good is it on a car of this price. Not good at all. I bet its fine in the summer when it's warmer.

Hi,

Just my fourpenny worth on pluses and minuses for the CX-5. I've now had mine for 5 months and 4500 miles. I guess I'm with alex1706 and perusal, more good than bad.

I've had no leaks, rattles, wobbly mirrors or bonnet. The TomTom works pretty well, and the Live Services is now 'live' virtually all the time. The I-Stop works most of the time, and I do use it. When it doesn't cut out at, say, traffic lights I've learnt to switch off the heater and virtually every time the I-Stop then does operate. I love the engine and auto, great! Ditto the brakes and steering. I'm getting about 41 mpg around town (in the cold and wet, better in the autumn). My comp insurance renewal just come in is for 165.

Two negatives; the demisting is slow to clear both front and back screens, and lastly, the ride is too unsettled and firm for me. I'll live with it.

Thanx for the honest review! Hopefully the new model has the ride sorted out. Remains to be seen. Mazda websites will be updated with new model details on the 1st of Feb I believe.

Get it sorted, I have zero rattles or squeaks, no mirror shake either, with bonnet shake I'm not totally sure, wife seems to think it does, I can't tell while driving, so its a non issue for me.

worst part of the car for me is the sat nav, small screen and low res graphics

.

Tum te tum, Twiddles fingers, still in the dealers. Mazda UK called me today, missed their call and waiting for them to call back.

The car will be parked up untouched?

What feeble excuses have they given?

I would be phoning Mazda and asking questions.

Waiting for a part! I called Mazda UK all they can do is chase up the part and try to speed it up. Nothing offered as a sweetener. Awful really. I'm selling it when I get it back. Had enough.

Anybody want to buy a full spare wheel set with foam inserts or a brand new 19" Toyo Proxes tyre never used? I'm being serious about this. I'm getting a Qashqai. I should be happy about getting a new car but I'm seething really. I wanted this car to last a good few years. I couldn't keep it now knowing its fault. I know it's getting fixed but the water could have got anywhere and unseen corrosion already set in. I can't live with the time bomb.

What a bad experience and I don't blame you for getting rid, I'd have to do the same knowing that the current problem could be the cause of further (more serious?) problems in the future and that you may have to test the corrosion / perforation warranty.

Hopefully for the rest of us, this is a rogue car and the faults will be addressed and fixed on Mk2.

Let us know how you get on with the sale / trade-in please.

If the water leak is you only issue then I think getting rid is ridiculous.

I've had a car that leaked water in a long time ago when cars were less protected against rust, all the carpets were soaking along with the felt underlay I had fitted myself for sound proofing.

Anyway I removed the carpets to dry them out thinking the worst, and found zero rust, besides which there is very few electrical connectors if any at floor level, the seat connectors are the ones that spring to mind.

I'd be at the garage asking to see the car with the carpets lifted before making any decision on the cars future.

Regarding water leaks I got rid of my Seat Leon (Mark 1) after 2 years having bought from new. I suffered from drenched carpets after six months of ownership and in the middle of winter unfortunately. After 6 visits to the dealer they finally fixed it. All door seals replaced - still leaked. Resealed pollen filter housing - leaked even more with a steady stream of water coming from behind the dash glovebox area on to the floor. (Bear in mind the CD autochanger was in the glovebox) I had a container placed there which I emptied after every journey and had to drive around with the windows down and the heater on full blast to stop misting up in the middle of winter.

Eventually the dealer found that there was a gap between an air con pipe and the seal where it went through the bulkhead so the water was running down the pipe and into the car when it rained. They took up the carpets and dried everything out with a heater. Roll forwards another year and one day when driving along ALL the warning lights lit up on the dash along with multiple warning beeps and the speedo and rev counter went haywire . Back to the dealer again and they diagnosed a corroded connector behind the dash. I wonder how that happened?(whistle). The error code print out from the on board computer had generated 5 pages of A4 paper. They replaced the wiring loom and all appeared ok until a few months later the airbag warning light came on. I'd had enough and didn't trust it anymore so traded it in for a Mazda 6 (Therein lies yet another tale of woe if anyone is interested)

I can understand why someone would want to get rid of their car after suffering leaks.
