How loud is the Mazdaspeed Sport Exhaust?

Mazdastuff.com has the mazdaspeed sport exhaust for $148.75. Definately wouldn't mind adding a few extra ponies to my P5. Does anyone have an idea of how this exhaust sounds? I'm in SoCal so I'm not looking for anything too loud, I don't want to attract unwanted attention(F'ing Pigs!!). I'd really like something LOW PRO that gives me a few extra HP. Is that just a muffler upgrade? or does it include piping as well?

Thanks,

its only the axle back it wont add horse power and it sounds pretty deep and timidly aggresive

it is just an axle back muffler. 4" rolled tip, all stainless steel. i have it and it's not really that loud. it's got a deep tone to it, and when you get on the throttle it opens up a bit, but again, not too loud. i'm not sure about hp gains though, because i measured the piping as 2" inside diameter, which i think is the same, or slightly bigger than stock. for bigger gains, you could get a mental addiction motorsports 2.5" mid pipe with high flow cat and some aftermarket cat-back system. hope that helps. sorry i couldn't get a sound clip, i've got no way of recording.

it drones a bit on the freeway. around town, it's nice and deep. what i like most about it is that it fills the exhaust cutout on the back bumper perfectly.

not loud, unless u get a header and straight pipe *cough*

but yah, no probs with that exhaust

gets annoying above 3k, especially when driving at fast speeds.....had it on my sedan and then P5 for almost 3 years and i just switched to a Mazdaspeed factory exhaust it is much nicer......

they both give no noticable gains.

When I'm upstairs in the house, I can hear the car coming from about 2 blocks away. I'd prefer something quieter.

From outside, the car has a nice deep low rumble. From inside the car, there is a noticeable drone between 3200 and 3700rpm. I took mine off since it was giving me a headache on longer highway trips.

The car seemed more responsive and a little more power.

yeah, becasue it is louder. it sounds like it is going faster.

my girlfriend HATED it......she put up with it for many miles.

she always knew when i was coming home and backing into the driveway!

Truth be told, my girlfriend would not get in my car anymore. It was either the exhaust or (naughty) . So the exhaust is now sitting in my garage.

I wonder if there are differences in the exhausts. Perhaps Mazda manufactured a bad batch and sold them, pretending not to know. Some people have not problem whatsoever with drone from that exhaust.

it drones on the freeway a lot until you dynamat your hatch or stay below 65 mph

I just did mine and it's waay more bearable, plus the sound is now enjoyable instead of almost deafening

sound wise, pretty much what everyone's been saying. power wise, i remember someone on the forum testing this exhaust out, comparing it with stock, with intake, w/o intake etc...and i think he concluded that there was a 2-3hp (?) gain. i have no opinion however. if i can find that thread i'd link it.

my g/f picked up a new jetta; i picked up a new jetta for her last fall and she wanted to drive it all the time. she was driving a POS 01' Sentra GXE, which i would not drive in so we always took my car.

i did not like driving the jetta all the time although it is a nice ride (it has balls with the 1.8T 5-speed) over the 2.0 in my Protege. my exhaust was getting too loud for my liking and i compromised when getting the MSP factory exhaust.

now we get to drive my car more and my car is quieter.....

i even put some sound dampering stuff on my hatch and in the base of the trunk to eliminate some noise, but it did not work.

The MSP aftermarket exhaust was pretty much a strait-pipe and had no muffer so it was loud from day one.....oh-well. i am happy now!

I found it obnoxiously loud on the highway. I got mine from a friend, used, and took it off again a couple weeks later after it gave me a huge headache on a road trip. I got more noticeable gains from my Injen CAI and that sounds great, even on the highway!
I'd skip it.

i guess i never hear the droning on the highway cause my music is too loud anyway. (band2) haah

WoW...thanks for all the feedback. Yeah, I came from owning an integra LS and i had a 5 zigen FIREBALL exhaust. IT was LOUD, cause I removed my resenator. Damn...it did get anoying...in the FWY. I don't want to live that again!! Hense why I'm worried about it being loud. Getting older and wiser I suppose.
