How do you valet?

Is there supposed to a separate valet key? Or is it just the key that pulls out from the smartkey? Just wondering because the valet keys usually don't have access to the glove compartment. Do you just hand them the smartkey without the key and hope they know what to do with it?

Curious to find out how people usually valet with the smartkey system.

Guess I would have to go some place that has valet parking, but I am not that sophisticated. Sorry.

There may be places where you should be concerned about this, but a valet service shouldn't be one of them. Places that have valet parking have surely dealt with cars from Mercedes, Infiniti, etc. that have keyless ignition.

I did have to help out the guys at an oil change place a few weeks ago while I was driving a friend's Suzuki SX-4. When it came time to start the engine after the oil change, they came to me looking for a key. They didn't know I'd laid the fob in the cupholder so the car could be started by anyone. I had to show them that the ignition would turn without a key inserted.

If you have this problem with a valet service, maybe consider parking yourself and walking....I wouldn't want them parking my car.

wow i wouldn't be going back to that oil services... but yah most likely valet services should know what they are doing... i cant valet my car since i pretty much bypassed the key ignition cause it wont start. i let a friend drive and he burnt out my starter because he didnt turn the switch off.

I would leave the valet people the FOB (KEYCARD) and keep the pull out key for myself. If you lock stuff in your glove box like most of us do when we valet, the they will not be able to open the glove box because you now have the key.

I give them the smart key. The pull out key is probably only useful if your car has an keyless problem. If you notice the pull out doesn't have a hole for a key tag. Valets need this and the ability to hang the key.

I leave the valet key with the valet. I don't keep any valuables in the glove box so it hasn't caused a problem yet.

(iagree)

This is what I do.

My Cadillac STS and C6 Corvette also have smart keys, and I leave the fob, pocket the key.

In my youth I ran valet for a few years and the standard protocol is to leave the fob with the valet and take the actual key. Let them worry about where to hang it. I am sure they have a system for just such an instance.
