How accurate is your boost guage??

Is it possible that the engine can hold a little vacuum after the engine is shut off? Mine always reads a slight vacuum when the car is off. Tonight I'm going to shut the car off, then pull the gauge vac line and see if it goes to 0.

Im sorry, but Autometer is trash........they never read correctly, and are prone to getting stuck. No offense to anyone who uses them........

Any other well known guage besides Autometer should have nice quality and be pretty accurate........Defi, Greddy, Apexi, Hks, etc.

I rock Defi.......excellent quality, and shows vaccum. Hks is another guage that ive seen in person and is very nice.....

SPOOLED: Mine actually reads 0 when the car is off.......and read about -20 vaccum when at idle.

Well, I did my test and have concluded that my gauge does indeed suck my left testicle; possibly my right one, too. It held at ~2 in.mg. after pulling the vac line.

CitizenPro, is that a mechanical gauge? I really like the idea of electronic boost gauges since they eliminate the chance of pinches at the firewall.

Is a higher vacuum reading good or bad? Because I remember when I first got the car it read 20 when off the throttle, but now it's closer to 24.

The difference is probably that your ac compressor was on when you bought the car. When AC is on, the IAC opens more, and you have less vacuum.

If you mean that short hose going to the solenoid with teh brown plug on it, I'm pretty sure that is the Evap system Purge Solenoid Valve. It's an emissions thing.

Fuel pressure regulator vacuum supply solenoid. The evap purge regulator is bolted to the intake tube.

alright i'll put another vote in, IMO, Autometer is a name, nothing else, they suck multiple testicles! I have Defi guages, they rock, boost is crazy accurate. Glad i paid a little extra. I Vote Defi, or pretty much anything besides autometer, (no offense to autometer users) i used to have some autometer gauges, Major suckage! Just My .02

are u guys saying ALL autometer or just he mechanical ones?

my full sweep fuel pressure and boost have laster quite a while with no issues. and my autometer wideband 02 seems to be fine...

guess im lucky.

I have an autometer ultralite. It seems to work fine... settles at 0 when the car is off. No mbc and it's reading between 7-8psi with a 9 psi spike. When I was boosting I was at 10psi and spiking to 14psi. Heck... if I'm boosting lower, no big deal, I can still be evo's and srt's! lol

Same here, I have two and they go to zero at shut off and work fine all day long. But I think I am going to get rid of them and get an overpriced one. Because Autometers suck, are trash, and just don't function properly. Yeah right!

my blitz dual turbo timer has my almost stock msp go from .47hkPA to about .52hkPA when its cold, or 6.81 to 7.54 psi, so i think its pretty accurate

I'm wondering if anyone has ever checked their boost guage against a map sensor to see how accurate it is. I had the laptop hooked up to my afc today, and I thought I was running 11 psi all this time. Well the highest I saw was 9.2 falling to 8.6 psi. I have an autometer boost guage. Just wanted to see if anyone has ever done this, and if your guage was accurate. Please list brand if it was.
kinda late but i had a autometer at one time and mine was off like a mugg. i thought i was runnin 15psi and was only runnin 10-11psi. damn autometer. i think you can get those recalibrated (boom07)
anyway with the Greddy i dont worry about it (thumb)

just got my stewart warner hooked up, reads almost exactly 6.5 boost, which i assume is right since i'm stock... vac at idle is about 17 though, shouldn't it be closer to 20??

I can almost swear that I had less vacuum when I got the car half a year ago. Though, I would think that more vacuum would be better (tighter connections)?

On the other hand I think my boost went down, too. I think I used to boost 6 psi or so and now it's 5.5 with it settling down to 5 near redline. Though does it make sense to have a higher vacuum (less leakage) with a lower boost? Eh.

However I honestly admit that I have a crappy memory so maybe it's just paranoia.

I'm with wicked here; for years I've been telling people that Autometer gauges are not accurate and they shouldn't monitor their car with them. I just had a debate with DAWIV about it this week, actually.

Now all of the sudden everyone's jumping on the bandwagon because someone *new* mentioned it.

They're bad. They're cheap, they're inaccurate and they cannot be reliable.
