Ok I know my reaction time was poor the first time, but the second was good I thought...
Either way both are lousy times...

the first launch was horrible. wheel hop and just plain bad

the second launch was much better didn't bog down and didn't spin out...little chirp and i was off...
the car seemed to pull pretty well but if you look at my second run's times its still poor...

I definitely am not experienced in tracking cars but i do consider myself a good/smart driver. So, is there any advice you allcan give to help improve my 1/4 mile times? And just to be sure...Is this a driver issue or is my car not performing as well as it should?

Again any advice, thoughts or comments are much appreciated!

What rpm are you shifting at? 60ft isn't the greatest, but not too bad with stock tires...not bad enough to warrant a 15.4

I will try that next time...
Also does anyone know where that track times thread went? I have searched and cannot find it...

My fist time at the track was like that. I just had trouble launching the car. It also didnt help that the track temp was over 100. I since installed a MM but havent been back yet.

How about you do more then 2 runs!?!

Basically your 60' times are absoluste garbage, thats what needs to change the most here, even if your great at shifiting there no real time to be made up once first gear is over, you just hang on for the ride. The race is over in the first 2 seconds.

Track was packed so thats all i could get in...

what is a good 60' time for a very close to stock MS3?

Lots of things could contribute to those times. Temp and humidity at the track? Did you flat shift to three? Traction control on or off?

It was about 75-80 degrees and not very humid...

what is flat shifting? all shifts were regular shifts...clutch in, gas off, shift, clutch out, gas floored...not good? sorry for the noob questions but never done this before...

I did the method of starting the car with the button pushed in so DSG flashes and the car lights up and stays lit.

Flat shifting is where you floor the gas and don't ever let off. Push in clutch to shift. It's very hard to flat shift 1st to 2nd as they are just so damn close. but 2nd to third, 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th should be just fine......you should be in 5th by the end and you should be shifting around 5500 RPMs

At least that's what I have read as I have not taken mine to the track. I'm suppose to be going the 3rd.

Definitely didn't do that...hahaha! I know what I will be trying today!

What is the elevation? That has a huge factor to. Here I am at less then 100 feet!!!!

It can't be over 500 feet...
better numbers at lower elevation b/c of denser air?

I usually don't flat-shift from 2-3 but from 3-4 and 4-5.

Good question where did that thread go?

I think that thread hit the dumpster after the guy running it went off and started swearing at the mods and got himself banned.

Someone with track experience should start one up, I want to look at some other times with people who have APs.

Track experience isn't needed to keep track of time slips, post times, etc. If you need advice just ask, there's a lot of members here with knowledge and experience. The person maintaining the thread just needs to keep it updated, that’s all. Cobb's MS3 ran 13.3@106.xx just incase anyone was wondering.

Couple bits of info -

1 - reaction time has nothing to do with 1/4 mile.

2 - 60 ft time is the most important thing to pay attention to. 2.6 is horrible, 2.4 is still very bad.

3 - trap speeds are usually directly related to the HP of the car. 94 MPH for a ~220 WHP car weighing 3300 lbs with driver is horrible, 96 is better but still low.

4 - Work on launching and getting around 2.2 60 ft times, that is a good goal to work towards when first learning 1/4 in most FWD cars with stock tires.

5 - Try to change your shift points because your traps times are low.

Good luck, it can take some practice to extract 10/10 of the performance out of the car.
