Hopefully getting my first Mazda6 on Saturday. (Pointers??)

Hello all, I have lurked around this site for quite a while now as I have always loved Mazda's and have been wanting one forever. My Chevy Silverado finally bit the dust after 200,000 miles of service and I have been test driving a few 6's in the last week or so. I have found the car that I want in Chicago, it is an '05 Mazda6 i, with 39,000 miles on it.

I am going to do a test drive obviously and inspect the vehicle, so what are some of the main things/possible problems that I should be looking for?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Anyone with inspection tips or general maintenance issues I should look for in a 6 with 39,000 miles on it, I would really appreciate some input. Also, any kind of service it might need once I purchase it to make sure that once I begin driving that it is in tip-tip shape?

Are you buying it from a dealer or from a private party? Just hear for odd sounds when driving. Check the oil dipstick to make sure there's oil in it, if it's low then be weary as they may not have taken care of the car like they should have. Also, listen for knocking, very doubtful since it only has just shy of 40k miles but you never know. There really aren't too many things too worry about with a N/A Mazda has they seem to last for a while with little to no problems at all.

I being a long time Mazda owner First a protege, and now a mazda 6 4cyl. 03 and a new mazdaspeed 6 07; recomend mazdas for anyone. I've found that they are great reliable cars...I haven't had any problems and as long as you take care of your vehicle properly it should be fine. I'm sure you will be pleased with your purchase. The 6 Cyl. Sixes are impressive all around cars. I bought my 03 six with 58k miles on it and it still runs great. WElcome to the forums and I'm sure if you've got any questions; many here can help.

Thanks for the replies so far guys. I am buying the car from a dealer. I plan to run a carfax report on it before I go to look at it just to make sure that checks out. I will be sure to check the oil before giving it a test drive.

So with an 05 Mazda6 with 39,000 on it what do you guys predict will be the first major maintenance that I will have to perform on the car? Just out of curiosity.

pick a color that you really want. Try to avoid silver (no offense) but there are way too many silver cars out there =p (speaking from a previous silver p5 owner)

I will look into the thing about the paint.

And no, I am not getting a silver 6. Like you I believe that there are far too many silver cars on the road. The color of the one I am most likely getting is actually "Steel Gray Metallic".

now that's a good color. There's more and more of these colors, but at least it's still a unique color.

Once you get the car I'd head out and get an oil change; it's always been something of an anal point with me. Also spend sometime flippin' through the manual, the maintenence schedule isn't to hard to keep up with so just be cognizant of any services coming due. Also inquire with the dealer to see if they did any of them while they had the car. I've had mine for a almost a year now, bought it with 27K and just clocked over 61K, thats 34k approx. in a year without so much as a burp, fart or giggle ... just regular maintenence.

Yeah, I am planning on having the oil changed within the first week of getting it. I will probly take it somewhere the first time, but after that I will just do it myself.

All the pieces are in place and I should be getting it tomorrow around noon or so. I am getting ridiculously excited.

Thanks again for any responses so far. You guys have been great.
