Hood pins

Alright, I did a search but came up with not much info. I have my gemini hood and I'm looking to get some hood pins. I also saw some info on hood locks and was wondreing if that was a bad idea or good idea? Anyone with pins/locks have any pics of them on your car. I was looking at the sparco ones and they seem nice. Any info, pics, stories appreciated. Also, where can I get some for a nice price?

Be very careful when you drill through that carbon hood. Start out with the smallest drill bit you can find and work your way up and don't rush it. If you do you'll crack your top clear coat and the resin and it could get ugly real fast. Find where you want to mount your pins then install them. Take some chalk and mark the tops of the pins then lower your hood on to them to make a mark on the bottum side. Drill from the bottum up and work your way through the 2 layers real slow ( there's a lower skin and a upper). Start working your way up in drill bits but make sure you measure each side so it's even. Once you get the holes big enough you can lay the lathes on top and start marking your holes to mount them. I used a really fine file to make my holes just right to match the pins. My holes in the lower skin are much larger than the ones on top so you don't run into rubbing issues when you open and close the hood. Good luck and take your time!! Took me about 3 hours to get them just right.

Oh yeah, I forgot to put that in there. Lay some tape down where your gonna drill your holes, maybe a couple of layers in case you slip you don't scratch your hood all up. If you look at the radiator brace behind the headlight there is a couple of holes there and that is where I mounted my pins. I had to shave down my pins a bit so they wouldn't hit the top of my headlight housings. Depending on the size of your pins you might have to use a fine round file to enlarge your holes. I don't have any close up pics right now, but I can take some tommorrow and post them for ya.
