my hood is kinda hard to wax... when i go to buff wax off it is filmy and much dif than the rest of the car... i have tried dif waxes because i thought it was bad wax but still ... anyone have any ideas? im gunna claybar it as soon as i get a chance to see if it gets better ...

First off, what wax are you using. Second, are you using too much? Pics please, if you can.

If you clay the car, I would wash it twice with Dawn or Joy dishwashing soap. This will remove any wax you had on the car. Once the wax is removed, then clay, then wax.

Like MadOzodi mentioned, what kind of wax and how much are you using? I use Zaino and the results are great.

I find the same thing to happen as well. Be sure that the hood is cool and the engine isnt warm and heating the paint up.

^ That's exactly what I was gonna suggest, too. When my engine is still warm and I wax it, it's hard to get it off of the hood.

im using miguires ech wax... always have and never had any probs.... the car has always been cool. is dish detergent safe on the car?

Dish detergent is safe, but takes off all previous wax. You are much better off using a wash product that doesn't strip the wax so you can continue to build protection.

Dish soap will remove all previous wax, but I don't recommend it. There are other products out there that will remove wax. Depending on how old or what elements your car has already been exposed too, I would wash it, clay the hood, use a cleaner wax and then apply the wax and see what happens. Are you allowing it to dry? I know that may sound crazy but I've noticed on some of my other cars certain panels take longer for the wax to dry. Let us know.

If he's going to clay the car, the whole reason to "clay" is to prep the finish for wax; not clay on top of wax.

If you are going to clay the car, I would highly suggest removing all the wax (using dish soap or what ever) and then put a coat of wax on your car.

yeah it has time to dry. i think im gunna use a cleaner wash to take the wax off. i dont know how comfortable i would be with use a dteregent... i will let u guys know when i do it

The clay bar does remove the wax. Takes it right off along with all the other finish impurities. If you clay bar the finish follow with a good polish and then wax. Don't skimp on either. I would stay away from the dish detergent. It will strip the wax off, but also leaves a film on the clear coat.

I'd be wary of using something like Dawn on a car with paint less than a year old. Unless you've waxed the bejezzus out of the hood with like 10 layers already.

Might I suggest Klasse All-In-One after you've cleaner washed and clayed? I moved to it from Zaino and am happy with the results. I use the Klasse Sealant Glaze after, and then another sealant.

I don't envy you with your black car...I pretty much gave up on my black mustang after 3 or 4 years.

GL and I hope it works out for you. You may also want to pose your question on the Autogeek.net forums. Lots of helpful detailing freaks (of which I admit I am one...freak, not necessarily that helpful, that is) over there.

Been using Dawn on my car to start a fresh coat of wax each year with zero issues. What "film" does dish detergent leave behind? I have never heard of this and curious....

Dawn is for dishes, i'd never use it on the car. Can be bad for some plastics as well. Just use some harse soaps like megs NXT and such. A good clay and some polishing is all u really need before waxing.

I only use Dawn once a year to remove wax. It's not like I use Dawn every time I wash my car. (braindead Still like to know some facts about dish soap leaving a "film" on the clearcoat and how its bad for some plastics....

I use Dishwashing soap on all my cars and have never had any problems with the paint or the plastics and I tend to keep cars for at least 100K miles and/or 5 years. Yes it removes old wax and its not something you want to use for regular wash but its more than fine for the times you will wax... you can go buy the more expensive stuff but Ive yet to see or hear anyone have damage done to their cars from dish soap.... its an effective wax remover that wont damage the paint...at least in my experience

i would have to disagree. dawn works great to clay bar your car(only when your going to clay bar your car which should be done a max of 2 times a year). you tell me this doesnt look fing great. http://www.focusfanatics.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=22877&sort=1&cat=500&page=1 or http://www.focusfanatics.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=22876&sort=1&cat=500&page=1
