PRESS RELEASE:
Holden Special Vehicles unveil seven litre Supercar the W427
29.02.2008

Holden Special Vehicles unveil seven litre Supercar the W427
Holden Special Vehicles today unveiled a seven litre program at the Melbourne Motor Show, the last instalment of the company s 20th anniversary celebrations.

The car to be known in its final development stages as the W427 is finished in the same Panorama Silver paint scheme as the original Group A SS VL Commodore, released at the Melbourne Motor Show of 1988, exactly 20 years ago.

HSV Managing Director, Scott Grant, said the W427 was a tribute to how far the company has come in just twenty years.

"To be able to produce a vehicle of these proportions is truly remarkable," Scott Grant said.

"The W427 will be quite possibly the fastest road registrable Supercar ever produced in Australia and among the quickest anywhere around the world," he said.

While power output figures are still to be confirmed, the W427 is likely to produce in excess of 370kW of power and 640NM of torque.

"It will also be one of the safest cars HSV has ever put on the road," Scott Grant said.

"A new six piston front braking system will provide a 50% increase in pad area, while the W427 also receives a revised ESP calibration, six air bags, improved handling and new Magnetic Ride Control settings."

The W427 receives a bimodal active exhaust system to improve noise quality and back pressure management.

Styling and design highlights include an all new front fascia, a three piece carbon fibre rear spoiler, 20 inch machined faced alloy wheel, unique exhaust tips and red leather interior.

Scott Grant said HSV would be introducing a unique customer relations program to accompany the launch of the new vehicle.

"The W427 will only be produced in limited numbers and we want to reflect that exclusivity in how we connect with our Supercar customers," Scott Grant said.

"This program will see the LS7 engine being fitted at Clayton, along with the dry sump system and a range of other engineering features. We are looking at opportunities to allow owners to visit HSV and view the unique manufacturing process that goes into building this car."

The W427 will go into production in the middle of the year and will be available for sale in dealerships in the third quarter of 2008.

"Make no mistake, while the specifications of the car unveiled on the stand today at the Motorshow may change slightly between now and when production begins, this car is destined to make as big an impact as the original Walkinshaw twenty years ago."

i'm not that crazy about the front end, but i would totally drive one.

Holden needs to bring all of their cars to the U.S., NOW!

When I become president of the United States, this will be my personal vehicle! CATCH ME IF YOU CAN TALIBAN!!!!!

Holden needs to bring all of their cars to the U.S., NOW!

Give it time, I guess the G8 reception in the US will reflect on what variations will come next, and will also define what local tuners will develop after-market for it (yes)

If GM is clever, they should combine a little bit of all the Commodore performance variations to tune the G8 GXP, and thaaaaaaaat could be a hell of a car (bowdown)

Haha, we have evil cars in Australia.

Holden W427 limited to 427 units costing $150,000 AUD each

Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has just issued a press release announcing the program for the seven litre W427 program, including pricing, volume and distribution strategy.

Not surprisingly, only 427 W427s will be built, however all will be built to order at the Clayton production facility. HSV will give each Australian and New Zealand HSV Dealer (64 in total) one W427 (as long as they have a firm retail order) while the rest will be allocated to dealers based on 2007 sales figures.
The all important figures? Tom Walkinshaw has just confirmed the final power output figure for the W427 will be 375kW and 640NM of torque.

From the outside you can tell its a W427 thanks to its all new exclusive front fascia, all new 3 piece rear spoiler in carbon fibre and all new 20 inch wheels.
The interior is treated with HSV E series performance seats in full red hot trim with W427 logo plus HSV steering wheel, gear shifter and console lid in full red hot leather trim.

Suspension is also different over the GTS with the new springs being 30% stiffer than the GTS, while the car sits 20mm lower than GTS as well. The rear gets stiffer suspension bushing, plus HSV has had to rework the Magnetic Ride Control calibration to suit new springs, ride height and bushing.
The W427 comes to a stop using 6 piston front braking system (50% increase in pad area) with 2 piece floating front rotors (380 x 35mm) compared to 365 x 32mm one piece on GTS.
Engine details:
  • 7.0 Litre, LS7 Engine with HSV specific calibration
  • 375kW @ 6500 rpm
  • 640Nm @ 5000 rpm
  • Over radiator style cold air induction system with high flow air filter.
  • Dry sump lubrication system with 2 stage pump.
  • Hand fabricated aluminium oil reservoir, with baffles for high G loading.
  • Front mount, 13 row engine oil cooler
  • Ceramic coated, high flow 4 into 1 extractors
  • High flow catalytic converters and exhaust system (3 into 2 )
  • Active bi-modal rear mufflers
  • Exhaust back pressure management
  • Improved noise quality
  • High strength limited slip differential
  • New high strength 6 speed manual gear box (TR6060)
  • GMPT LS7 Clutch with new actuator and pedal assembly for high clamp loads

How much torque again?

The front end is very audish. I still want a white G8 though! Gotta keep saving!!!

Guess chevy had some extra z06 engines sitting around and sent them to australia. Too bad the g8 doesn't come with that engine as an option.

Oz-some: HSV W427 launches Down Under

(naughty)

"She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts." That's what Han Solo says about the Millenium Falcon. You could apply the same saying to the HSV W427 super-duper sedan just launched by Holden's in-house performance division. I mean, that front end has some serious issues, but the Corvette Z06's LS7 V8 lurks behind it, and it's no joke, giving the four-door 500 horses and 471 lb-ft of torque. Production is limited to 427 units total, 90 of which will be produced this year. All of those have already been spoken for at a heady $154,500 Australian dollars, including luxury tax. Buyers also get the opportunity to tour the cars' production facility, and get a letter from Tom Walkinshaw, who started HSV some 20 years ago. The "W" in the car's name is also a tribute to him. HSV says that the W427's angry fascia emphasizes the cooling needs of the 7.0L V8. We think it mostly tells drivers who catch it racing up in their rearview to simply move out of the way...or be swallowed whole. We hear the car runs best when fed a steady diet of FPVs.

A slew of new photos have dropped in conjunction with the car's production launch, all of which can be seen in the gallery below.

Cars looks so much better in red. The front is isn't subtle...but then again, nothing about that beast is subtle. Talk about ram air!
