now tht i'm pretty much done the appearance i wanna start working on the engine. I'm not too familiar with turbo upgrading and everything but i found a mbc for 100cdn bucks, i think its a good price. I've always wanted to go higher boost but with all the threads on blown engines steered me away, especialy when one of the members here recently blew his engine too, but tht was like at 14psi-16psi or something. I wanna go 9psi, I just wanna know what to do and what not to do, tips? what are the gains?

Thanx :)

Boost gauge is a must, dont just trust a mbc. Also, freeing up as much as possible will give you a better piece of mind... slap on an apexr1 dp and you should feel pretty comfortable at 9psi.

Depends on what the MBC is man... if it's basically the same type as the greddy or turbonetics we offer the same basic thing for 49 USD, and will support it directly as well. (If you have a link on the MBC I can tell you if it is basically the same as ours or not). 9psi in theory would be ok, but any time you raise the boost your raise your risk. Motors have blown at as little as 12 psi, so it's all your risk or choice when you raise that boost. But definitely a boost gauge is a must... and if you can get it, a wideband or narrowband AFR meter is an additional safety measure (you should never go "lean" during boost).

If you have other questions just pop them up and I'll do my best to answer completely for you.

Have a good one,

Steve

an NGK 6 or NGK 7 is fine. I lean toward the 7's but some other people say the 6's are fine. So toss up there :)

only really for longevity... I don't think many/any have noticed any improvement in how the car runs. I know Beau recommends the iridium.... so knock yourself out :).

oh, and i dont know how true this was but i read somewhere that it was about a 10 hp increase with every pound that you up the boost, and that it would be higher than 10 hp per pound if you had other mods(fmic, downpipe, exhaust, etc...)

about 10-15 horse per psi is inline... all depends on tune and so forth... but that is a "reasonable" estimate.

this is the mbc i'm getting

would it be that bad if i don't get a dp?

that kit looks to be about the same as ours.... You don't need all those fittings though for installing on an MSP.... I believe my/our kit would be cheaper for you should you be interested (shipped to canada it is about 60 USD total). (kit pictures on our website in the products area at www.nsnmotorsports.com)

stock boost is supposed to be about 6 psi... which shows that the car is not making quite 10 hp per psi closer to about 5 horse per psi... which is a testament to the car not breathing or cooling (intercooler) as well as it could and other possible hinderances.... a tuned and boosted car will make about 10-12 hp per psi on average... my car was about that as well as a few others on here. Open it up further with better flow and efficient turbos and that number goes up.

psi to bar... 1 bar is 14.5 psi or 1 psi is .07 bar approximately.

if you plan on upping the boost a less restrictive exhaust and an fmic are both really good ideas... ohh and a boost gauge too.
