What are your opinions on 'high mileage motor oil'?

Is this stuff really needed after 120,000km/75000miles (jerkit) like they say?

Is $10 more that regular 10W 30/10W40. (eekfu)

waste of money...Maybe they have more seal conditioning chemicals, maybe.... but thats about it, Its just regular dino juice in a shiny bottle.

Since I'm over 75k now, I ran a change of hi mileage thru it just for the seal conditioners then just went back to mobil1 afterwards. It made no difference on consumption, most of which goes in the catch can on the pcv side anyway. I run it in my 400k mile truck all the time since it's cheaper than synthetic & my truck wouldn't know what to do with synthetic since it's spent it whole life on castrol dino 20-50w.

Is high mileage oil just a bit thicker so it won't leak through and get burned off? If that's the case, the perfect test would be to use it and see if you consume any less oil than before with the normal stuff. If you never lost oil to begin with, it's probably just a waste of money (if it costs more which I imagine it does).

It's not a viscosity thing, mostly additive to condition seals thing. It comes in different viscosities but does say burnoff protection too. I think it's an additive thing conditioning the seals to lessen the burnoff. Other than that it's just a bit more than dino & less than syn blend (depending on brand somewhat).

Well, what is the comparison on the commercial all about? Just a bunch of horse pucky or the real thing?
