Widebands will not work for cold starting problems. They need to warm up before they read right.

i know that, thats not why i was asking him. my gauge won't read in this weather until about five or ten minutes into the drive cycle (flashes a series of ones, then gives an accurate reading once warmed up). i was asking him if he had one because when he goes to tune it, as he will need to do, having a wideband will help him tune it

Sorry I did not know he was having all kinds of other problems. I only saw post's about cold starting.

Sorry to hear about your issue Pretzel. I just got mine installed and in 22* weather it started and run flawlessly on the first try. Also this morning was about 30-35* and the same thing. no hard starts, no sputtering, held a good smooth idle and everything.

Just so I don't have to re-read through all this junk again....how cold is it there?

Last time this happened, we had a cold snap into the low single digits. Yesterday it was in the twenties, and I've never had troubles with that before.

Brian said that it might be due to not having a complete warm-up cycle before shutting the car down. I moved it the night before and only drove it a mile or two.

What spark plugs are you running? What do you have them gapped at?

My car doesn't have many cold start issues at the moment.
Usually it starts up on the first crank.
Sometimes it takes me a couple of times cranking it. The first time it almost catches, and then a split second later I turn the key again and it starts right up.

I've tried a different tune on my AEM last month, and couldn't cold start at all without loading my former maps in. Luckily I had my laptop with me in my car, it's a must at all times imho, but that's because I'm always adjusting something it seems. The car runs remarkably well, but I am always testing different settings and trying to go further with the tune. I could leave it alone, but I can't help myself. :O

One thing I've noticed when it's pretty cold and it does take a couple cranks to get running is that it starts easier and quicker if I have the fan off entirely, the vent control switch set on dash vents only, a/c off, and don't have my radar detector plugged in. That may be particular to my car, but reducing the electrical load upon cold start could make a difference on any setup that occasionally has cold start issues.

Sounds like your maps need a little tweaking to get the cold start more fine-tuned. Is there a chance of you borrowing a laptop from someone you know for a day or two in order to extract your current maps and make some recommended adjustments? If you are running well other then the cold start, you wouldn't necessarily need to buy a laptop to continue tuning it, although it's always nice to have.

mainly in my experience, a wideband helped me adjust the temperature corrections. if i adjusted them too much one way or the other, i would run too rich or lean, etc. i want to make sure when he goes to make any adjustments he doesn't blow up his car :)

wow Roni not on your meds today? Why do you assume I was talking to you?? I also have boobies. Try not to go overboard over every little thing said on the internet.

p.s. no cold start issues with me...just fyi.

One's car must start before it can blow up :D

She's running again. I need to get the new setup without the crossover intake pipe. Having to remove that, along with the oil like attached to it, makes the job of pulling the plugs and coils much harder than it should be.
