i think that is typically the case. The insurance compnay would want to know if you had more expensive stuff on your car because if that were the case they would charge you more to insure it (ie worth more so charge more).
In my instance, my cf hood got messed from the crash as well as my rim. those were the only aftermarket things messed in the crash, however it wont matter because a stock hood with pain is more expensive than a carbon fiber one unpainted. Also stock racing hart rims are like 325 or something stupid from the dealer.
The stuff that was stolen from my car falls under the comprehensive coverage of my insurance, and thus i dont think i had to iform them of the existence of it, however i will know soon enough (ie tomorrow when the adjuster calls me.)
