Pioneer AVIC-Z2, Nav + Live Traffic, XM, fast iPod + Hard drive, Bluetooth, Rear Camera and DVD...

I'll be here all day while they do the install... will keep ya all posted and will definitely post photos later!

I'm on long island also, and used to work in the car stereo space. What shop are you having do this work for you?

Can't wait for the photos. What exactly happens to your Bose audio?

Audio shop it in Selden... Jazz Audio

Right now, it looks like the interface cable to go into the Bose amp isn't yet available, but the installer (Tim) has a few options to tap into the existing Bose system. Right now, I'm just replacing the head unit and going to try to use the Bose amp and speakers.

*Just got an update* - he's going to rewire the car and we're going to use the HU's output for now... which has a higher output than the Bose Amp anyway.

"Fast iPod" is my attempt to explain Pioneer's iPod connection... I don't know the exact name of it, but I'm probably confusing it with Alpines iPod thing. Whatever... it's the iPod connection to the HU that makes it so you can control the iPod and see all the song/artist information through the HU.

More info coming soon... these guys are awesome :)

Jazz is a good shop, They used to be Parkway which is who I worked for... They do good work. I believe Tim has been there for a while also. Probably the best move is to rewire the car. Only thing that may affect the overall performance is that I believe the Bose speakers are 2ohm and the power rating on the Pioneer is going to be at 4ohms so you may actually lose power by rewiring the car. On the positive side you can just replace all the speakers and run external amps in the future with much less hassle. Let Tim know that though before he gets too deep into wiring the car, may modify what he does...

word i live in long island too, how much isit all costin u? i really wana get bluettoth installed
I had the Parrot kit installed by the dealer when I leased the truck. My advice to you is to go to I believe the name is Custom Tires in I believe Great Neck and have them do the work. One of the best shops on LI do many famous people's show cars. My problem with the Parrot kit is that I got the one with color LCD but where they mounted it renders it useless since it's behind the wiper stalk and I can't see it anyway. I'm going to have it moved somewhere but I have to figure out where. Works great though. If that isn't the name of the shop, I'll try to remember it for you.

I just remembered their exact name, it Best Tire and Audio on Northern Blvd in Great Neck. They do some of the best work in NY

Update:

Car is rewired (temporarily so I could hear it) and it sounds AWESOME. I can't believe how good it sounds, or that they're the same speakers! Tim had suggested to stick with the Bose because they are good speakers, and he was right. They sound BETTER than the way it was set up OEM.... much better.

BTW, he was able to tap into the existing rear-view camera, and he's also going to tap into the existing microphone for the nav system.

More coming soon!

ps. Hey LIe... what' your first name? Mike was curious ;)

First names Evan, I worked for Parkway in both their North Babylon shops and the East Meadow store like 7yrs ago or so. I forget the name of the guy who owned that shop that is now Jazz, I want to say Gill but I don't think that's right. Anyway guy used to drive a sick Porsche that owned the Selden Parkway. Tell Mike when I worked at Parkway I worked for Dan DeNovelis and Dave Nadder ran the shop.

Oh and good to hear the change worked out well! Post pics when you can, I'd like to see how it looks in the dash. I'm guessing they had to do some for of custom plate to mount it...

One more thing, tell Mike I was going to have John at the Jazz 2 shop do some work for my protege but they closed that store and I'm selling the pro. John also worked at Parkway but he worked at the Farmingdale store before I joined the company. LI car stereo is a relatively small family... most of us know each other somehow or worked with someone who worked with someone etc.

Okay folks, I wanted to update you all earlier but I lost my internet connection from the shop and had to wait until I got home.

I have to bring the car back tomorrow to be finished... the bluetooth unit didn't come in today like it was supposed to, and Tim ran into a little glitch with the steering wheel controls that he wants to research tonight.

Car should be done by tomorrow...

But I will say this so far... the Z2 rocks... it's an amazing unit. More importantly, Tim at Jazz did an AWESOME job on the dash kit... just wait until you see it...

I'll post more tomorrow...

Okay... I'm really in a big rush, but I didn't want to leave any of you waiting for photos hanging anymore... I WILL take more... but at least you can see the install... I love what Tim did!!

new photos coming tomorrow

ps...

The iPhone pairs up with the Z2 via bluetooth... I haven't tried a phone call yet (too late), but the devices saw each other and paired just fine.
