Help With Headunit...

Hi all. I tried searching but didn't find anything.

My Headunit doesn't light up anymore. (help) It all works I can listen to music, radio, Cds, Mp3's all just fine. The buttons all light up but the LED or the Crystal Display doesn't light up. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm hoping maybe it's just a fuse or something inside hopefully?? (sad2)

no, no one has ever had any problems with the stock kenwood headunit that comes in the msp

Sounds like the ribbon cable to me. My fiance's clarion unit has the same problem.

Yep, mine did the same thing at first. Expect it to crap out in about 2 weeks.

this issue has been addressed in at least 50 threads. and someone recently put up a how-to on how to fix it your own if your warranty ran out or if you are just sick of trading it in for another model that will break down in a few months every few months

Its really not worth fixing in my opinion. Its a flawed design and will only break again. Just get something else. I did and the sound is so much better. You should be able to take apart the unit to access the CD once its out of the car.

take the deck casing apart you should be able to find the ribbon cable and where it is leading to.. keep lightly moving it while trying to open the deck it should come open eventually, if it is the ribbon cable but most of the time it is with motorized faces.


i know cuz i recently had a project with an old clarion motorized face and mounted the face in a sun visor.
